Greetings All, I wish to make a heavy Indica photo strain an autoflower, but i want to retain most of the Photo strain's traits, how would I choose parents? Would I use pollen from a male autoflower to pollinate a female from the photo's lineage? Or, would I use pollen from a male from the photo's lineage? Would it be wise to do both?

I understand that the autoflowering trait doesn't appear until the 4th filial generation. What are the procedures for choosing parents to breed with during the f1-f4 generations? Do I back cross at anytime between f1 and f4? I'm to know if there's any reference material on the site on this subject. Thanks! :peace:

It all comes down to prefrennce and what traits you want to retain, from my understanding the auto trait is "more" carried in a male than a female.... For first f1 choose the best pheno from the ones you grew out of that strain.... To work with the photo on the photo side it is imperative you learn how to clone.... I would pick personally for f1 one what plants looked the healthiest and most robust of the lot... Also take in to consideration size and structure of the plants and see what traits you want to carry over the most.. Than breed those... Than from that f1 grow as many beans as you can from that lot, you might be lucky and find a couple that auto for you... Grab those to use as a mon.... And just repeat process for each generation narrowing down the traits and direction your looking for the strain to go in.ll if you want to breed for potency the only way I figure is to pollinate a bunch of females, seed them and than smoke each one out finding the darkest of the lot, those the the lot of seeds you are going to want to use for the f3's...l
I been smoking all night and am rambling.l. So I hope I made just a little sense, I know it didn't answer your questions 100 % but hopefully gave you some food for thought.

Don't give up on your dream! Invision the final product your aiming for and keep a visual picture of it in your mind all the time... It's funny how things manifest themselves.... I was discouraged at breeding for a while, people making me feel it was above me etc... I say bullshit, every great breeder started some where and was a noob themselves at one point. My passion for canna and for its medicinal properties im going to make some damn fine autos i hope...I'm willing to put the very hard work in its going to be to make a couple truly unique strains of my own...l I thought without a farm this wouldnt be accomplishable, than I discovered the mighty power of small pots and the ability they offer to observe different phenos et c and grow a LOT of them at once to really observe and pick what your looking for..
For instance the one project I believe in that I've been working in for a while is currently at f2, just to give you an idea how long it's taken me to get to the point I'm going to pick a fem and a fem to reverse for f3... I've grown easily a dozen of the f2's.... I feel I have a good grasp of what I'm looking for and how to proceed for f3.. At which point than I will repeat process growing as many as I can out to see what is what and start really narrowing down what you want to try and past down to f4.....also at f3 I will take be strong fem and reverse her, than our the shim in a tent surrounded by like 4-6 mom plants to get pollinated.. I will than label seeds for each plant and store differently than grow those out and repeat and reoeat,etc.... RD Is starting to give me :nightdrag: night

time and more time

ive been working on an og kush auto , im trying to go pure og by the end , or as close as possible , but its hard to do when og is naturally prone to throwing late nanners , its something im trying to avoid/breed out , but after 2 years maybe even 3 now , im still not finished

its easy to just chuck pollen , but if your trying to build the perfect auto please dont expect to do it overnight

peace

I read in R.C. Clarke's book that Thai strains are the ones that really hermie late in flower. Indicas from the Hindu Kush range are very potent and very stable. I really enjoyed growing Seedsman seeds Narkush, it's a landrace IBL that tested 30%THC; I had two bonsai moms, but I had to go to LA and there was no one to look after them.

I've heard breeders say that a proven Kush mom is hard to find, the Narkush isn't well known and it's very under rated IMHO. It was so potent, we couldn't feel our legs, so my son called it drunk leg syndrome, and opiates really intensified the effect. We had a bad storm and the power was out for 4 days, the mother was in a small container until I put her outdoors to flower and I never had any hermie issues. It's a very leafy vigorous strain that smells like coffee & licorice. If med-man's pain killer doesn't work out, Narkush is my first choice because it's a super stable landrace hash plant with all the qualities a cancer patient would desire. I'm stuck at choosing an auto strain, no experience there. What autoflower crosses well with a Kush? Here's a couple pics of the PPK.

Kush van stitch is a great strain. I always highly recommend it to everyone. Especially if you get the right pheno. I lucked out and got a very kushy almost og kush but more lemon than pine tasting one on my first ever auto grow and fortunately made fem seeds. It is a big part of a few of my breeding projects.

Looks like Stitch might already have bred a narcotic strain that will help will relieve pain, and I see that he used lowrider#2 for the auto parent, which was one of my choices too. It seems that breeders are using lowrider #2 more than growers and patients. 60 days seed to harvest, that's awesome :tiphat:

My mom's worse pain is caused by the bone cancer lesions in her legs, and the strange effects of the Narkush was amazingly in the same place. I don't know if I got lucky with a rare pheno, or if there's one like it in every pack of seed. I'd like to get some Kush Van Stitch, and see if it'll help relieve the bone pain. I still need the experience of making correct choices to become a decent breeder.

Genetics: Lowryder #2 x OG Kush
Flowering time: 60 days from seed
Height: 50/80 cm - Indoor / Outdoor
Yield: 25/50gr - Indoor / Outdoor
Effect: very durable, relaxing, narcotic, strong
Power: very strong, very high CBD

Making good choices of strains to start with is one of the most important parts of breeding but also having room to grow out a large # of those selected plants and choosing the best to work with is just as important. I am able to grow a pretty large number of plants thanks to all my assistant breeders/growers and it is still taking a very long time with a lot of trial and error to get close to what I want. Just keep at it and you will eventually make something great.
Sending good karma your way!

I've been riding the bottom land trails for many years, and a lot of my fellow riders have either died or moved away, giving free access to a lot of space. A portion has flooded the past 3 years running, but there's so many places to grow the smaller autos without being ripped off. There's also a lot of corn fields, and between the two, there's plenty of space which could support a population large enough to choose many phenotypes for breeding. A breeder could grow three crops per season if things were timed just right. There's nothing like the great outdoors, and making early preparations during the winter would ease the burden and stress during spring. It seldom gets below 30 degrees here, and we have a lot of 55-65 degree days as well. I don't know any skilled growers to do the work for me, and autos will be a new challenge for me. I believe I've got a killer list proper of donors, so we shall see if good karma comes my way.

We've had very unusual & cool weather this year; this has been the coolest summer I can remember for decades. Maybe there's a climate shift coming our way, it wasn't long ago, the mid 1800's when the little ice age ended.
