How hot is normal for an HPS ballast?

I'm starting to dislike my HPS for a couple reasons. I want to get my moneys worth out of it so I'll run it on my current grow but I'm gonna go full LED

I'll be careful. That's some scary stuff.

I got two lights called X6 from amazon for super cheap - they draw 210 each from the wall and combined with a 1000 watt will do 6x4 and KILL it. Combined with HPS it's amazing. Awkward setup but I Just use the blurples with the hps on low for veg, then turn them all all the way up and 1500 watts for 6x4 and the combined spectrum kills it.
