This isn't ground breaking information or anything but it got me wondering what other peoples methods are? So I was reading a grow diary the other day and they were covering their technique for germinating and planting the seed which is the paper towel method (nothing unusual there, i do the same) but when it came to them putting the seed in the soil and watering. They put the soil in the pot and then poured a shot glass worth of water where the seed was going and planted it, this was new to me because i've always just completely soaked my soil until run off, left it in my cab for 24hr and then planted the seed. Now i'm just thinking i'm wasting my time soaking all the soil.
So yeah i was just wondering what other people do?

I'm a novice, on my third grow, I mainly follow (poorly) TaNg and Bunny's growing techniques.

Which seem to imply that less is more. When you fill your container with fresh medium, it should be moist straight from the bag, therefore very little water is required.

A shot glass amount in the middle, then plant your seed/root riot cube.

I never water to run off till flushing in the last 2-3 weeks

Keeps the soil as light and airy as possible, as the seedling isn't going to need much water at all till it gets properly established.

Then in the first 10-20 days watering about 250-500mls of water every 2nd or 3rd day.

Just the technique I use, and I've never had a problem getting new girls started.

Interesting, so your technique is similar to the one I was reading. I might give it a go on my next grow. I've never had a problem with pre soaking the soil completely but this watering with a smaller amount makes more sense.

I soak the soil completely and let all the water run out then put the sprout in right after. No reason to wait 24 hours. I also sprout my seeds in a cup of water with a plastic sandwich bag over the top to keep moisture in. 100% germ rate since switching from the paper towel method.
