I started out using black Bristol board so I could see the pollen. I would rub the flowers between my finger and thumb over a piece of bristol board then I would use the wooden end of an art paint brush to mash any flowers that fell off on to the board. then I would try to separate the flower pieces from the pollen then brush the pollen in to the storage container.
it was tedious work.
now I rub the flowers between my finger and thumb over a saucer then I dump the saucer of pollen and flower parts into a fine mesh strainer that I got from the dollar store and I rub the flower pieces in the strainer over a piece of black bristol board and it does a pretty good job of separating the pollen from the flower pieces.
anybody got any cool tricks to get their pollen?

Have very little experience, but from reading this is the process that worked for me and the things I had arounf the house. I used tin foil and made a square that I used to go around the base of the trunk just above the soil. I then let her go to opening when she was ready and collected the foil below with the dropped pollen. Put that on a big mirror and tried to remove as much foreign matter as I could before using a small screen/strainer to remove even more foreign matter. Razor on the mirror to gather, just like the 80's. Let it airdry a couple of days before putting it an airtight container in the freezer. Make sure if you freeze, before re-using, you let it come to room temp with the airtight container still closed as condensate can form and can kill some or all of the pollen. Good luck!
