working on some!
Hey everyone,

I've been browsing this site for some time now and got my first grow started after tons of research. This has seemed like a very helpful place and I'm grateful for all of the work that has been put into this community.

So onto my current (first) grow and I'm using a Mars Reflector 96 light in a 4x2x5 grow tent, inline extraction fan w/ carbon filter, passive intakes, inside fan for air circulation, FFOF soil, FF Tiger bloom, Botinicare Cal-Mag Plus, and filtered (via Brita water pitcher) water. Temps stay 75-82F and 50-55% RH. I started a Purple Ryder [HASHTAG]#2[/HASHTAG] Auto and Sweet Tooth Auto, both sprouted on 4/16. Growth has been great on both plants but in the last couple of weeks I started noticing some odd spots on the Purple Ryder.

At first these spots started out super light but then later turned brown. I've done so much digging and research trying to identify the possible issue. I've been feeding both Tiger Bloom and Cal-Mag about once a week at 1.25ml/L (.5 tsp/2L) for the last two weeks and haven't noticed much improvement. I've foliar fed Purple Ryder twice as well.

I did notice some extremely small critters in the soil but believe I've properly identified them as springtails and hypoaspis miles when looking at them under the scope. I got so freaked out between that and not seeing any improvements that I yanked the plant outta the pot last night to make sure there weren't root aphids, which I read could cause phantom deficiencies, and didn't see anything.

Please AFN, let me know what you think is going on with one of my babies!

welcome to AFN rj to my novice eye it looks like a cal mag def but i cant be sure if you post pics in the infirmary section someone will help you im sure there alot of very helpfull people on here

My novice eye would "guess" cal/mag too. But I did wonder if you were ph-ing everything, since you didn't mention a ph pen??? Also, :welcome: to AFN! :pass:

Ah, I knew I forgot something in my post! I have ph'd the soil with a testing kit and it tested between 6.0-6.5 so I think that should be fine. Was thinking of upping the cal-mag but I've noticed some leaf tips turning down and don't want to induce a nitrogen toxicity. Thanks for the welcomes everyone!

:pass: Thanks Eek! ... hey RJ, good on the soil pH,... I see Ca defc. (no such thing as Ca-Mg defc., though they do occur together often, hence the pairing; Ca and Mg behave very differently though.. Ca is immobile within the plant, Mg is; this means mobile nutes can be translocated from established tissues to new growth where it's needed most; symptoms are totally different, occur in different areas on the plant)..... What brand Ca-Mg do you have? I get the dilemma of added N in some formulations,... I try to get simple formulas, no extra's in them,.. GO CaMg+ is a nice product, 1-0-0,....

I'm using botanicare cal mag plus which 2-0-0. Do you think it may be worth stepping up the cal-mag dosage and maybe hold off on the tiger bloom for a couple feedings?
