Hello everyone,

I have started my grow diary for various strain under a skyline 1000 light!

Really well made and bright light , looks like it'll outlast me.

Still new to AFN so not sure what the best way to share here, I'm guessing a link to the grow diary?

Here it is: https://www.autoflower.org/ubs/blog/skyline-1000-verious-auto-strains.202/

Looking forward to this grow!

Great, thanks @Taipan seeing your grow diaries excited me even more about the skyline.

I actually have a question already :)

My friend says that I should close all ventilation windows on the the tent, he closes his competely and says that air comes in through the tent anyways. It is so tight that pressure is pulling the walls of the tent in making it concave which seems weird to me, I thought we'd want fresh air to come in easily.

Is there any benefit to closing all vents? or should I open one of the ventilation windows and tell my friend to switch his tactic?

Hi!! :D

So the walls of your tent being pulled in is a sign of negative pressure. If there is good airflow coming out of the extraction ducting (out of your tent) then it will probably be fine.

The negative pressure will allow your carbon filter to do a good job of ridding the smell from within your tent before it escapes.

I keep one of my vent holes (the bottom one where the leads come in) partially open as an intake for fresh air exchange and still get negative pressure.

Hope this helps

Yes, makes sense. So helps with the small, definitely need that :) will be keeping them closed then.

Thanks for the quick reply!

They survived the first night! All 4 plants which were in the towel already sprouting (Even the seedling I cut in half, phew)! fastberry and bubble kush are still in there, day 1 from seed so will be a few days on those I guess.

Added new pics in https://www.autoflower.org/ubs/first-week-with-skyline-1000.393/gallery

I had them covered with a clear plastic cup for extra moisture, how long should I keep them covered? Should I remove the cup now that they have sprouted? Got mixed results searching, people saying 10 days others saying just until you can see the green leaves pointing up.

So excited to see them growing under this light, it is quite a different experience to growing outside.

I've uploaded blog entries for week 2 here https://www.autoflower.org/ubs/week-2-of-mixed-variety-indoor-grow.436/ and week 3 (current) https://www.autoflower.org/threads/week-3-of-mixed-variety-indoor-grow.80046/

The lights are doing really great, apart from some watering and torture that seems to have stunned the sugar mama, all the others look good.

Did some tucking as the lower branches were getting little light.

Here they are as they stand today:
girls day 21.jpg

Clockwise from top left:
Candy Kush Auto 21 days old
Automatic Bubble Kush 17 days old, my favorite so far!
Candy Kush 21 days old (pegged)
Fastberry 17 days old
Sugar Mama 21 days old (yes 21 days old)

Both Candy Kush plants are showing some CalMag issue, ordered the CalMag. Will add as soon as I get it.

I am still not sure about my watering, the pot is heavy even when the top soil is dry, putting that moist meter in, tells me the soil is still moist. I haven't felt the thing go completely dry (light) since my over-watering problems. I have been watering lightly at the top whenever the soil dries but I think there is still water in the soil.

Thanks for reading

You do not have a cal-mag issue. Do not add Cal-mag at this time. It looks like your soil had some "Hot" spots. The Sugar Moma looks to have hit a spot that stunted it. The other also looks as though it hit a spot that locked the magnesium for a minute but it grew past it.

What soil, and nutrients are you using and what is the schedule?

The moisture meter is not necessarily accurate? What you need to learn about watering will come with practice. Here are the basic rules: Never let the soil dry out. Soil and or coco can become hydrophobic if allowed to dry. This means it repels water. This in turn will create dry pockets in the soil and roots there will die. If your soil - coco have accidentally dried out use a surfactant to help re-wet it. I like yucca powder. Don't let soil remain soggy by watering too much too often. Root rot, damping off, molds, fungus gnats and other problems start in soggy soil. When you do water water the entire pot. How to learn when to water starts before you plant the seed. Fill your container with fresh soil/coco and weigh it (heft it) this is the lightest weight and consider it a dry pot. Now slowly water until the soil/coco will no longer absorb the water and run-off begins; weigh the pot (heft it) this is the maximum water, the wettest the pot can get. The difference between wettest and driest is the maximum water weight, for ease of explanation lets just say the water weighs 20 pounds. When the pot loses 10 pounds (half of the water weight) it is time to water again. There is an art to watering.

@Mañ'O'Green Thanks! Makes sense, I was expecting the pot to go back to the complete light weight! There is definitely an art to watering, I didn't really worry that much with my outside grow (I've only harvested 3 and have 5 more running) as I just watered and the let the water run off. Now I understand much more the impact of watering on the plants and much better about when to water, I'll need a few grows before I properly master it :)

Growing in biobizz light-mix, have added biotabs mycotrex and bactrex once to the soil (I haven't used the actual biotabs). Not used any nutrients yet.

Didn't know about the existence of hot spots, I shall read up more on that and how to prevent in future  thanks!
