Total Newbie here your help is much appreciated...
So i started this plant a week ago using a method for autoflowers that is meant for the root to reach down to damp soil and avoid transplanting.
here are the steps
Take a redsolo cup, seedling cube, and seed and insert seed into cube and cube into cup.
Cut a hole on the bottom of cup.
Take 2.5+ gal pot and place a damp layer of soil covering only the bottom.
Place a dry layer of soil over that til pot is about 75% full.
Place solo cup into soil and lightly fill in the spaces around your cube and cup.

So this is supposed to allow the root to reach toward the water on the bottom while never having to transplant your autoflower.

But im worried I feel like maybe I misunderstood or messed up and this wont happen. Im worried my plant will be stunted and only grow into the cup regardless if the bottom is open?

What do you think??

You kinda sorta goofed up but it may be OK ... has the seed sprouted ? If so how big is it ? Hopefully your soil does not have fertilizer in it ... did you cut off the bottom of the cup or did you cut a hole in the bottom ?
:welcome:

Sounds like you were thinking reservoir in a hempy bucket to reach? never heard of wetting only the bottom layer of soil. Like Chester said, you'll probably get it sorted. i would just get the sprout in to the final container ASAP. Also, i would fill more than 75%. You'll find that over time, after watering, gravity yetc that the soil compacts even further. I would fill it up to 2 inches below the top of the pot. Just my proverbial two cents.

I cut the whole bottom out and let the soil cube from the cup touch the soil that goes directly into the 2.5 Gal pot that I intend to use for the whole grow.
I was hoping the roots just grow down and around my cup.

How far below the surface of the pot is the top of the cube ? is there any chance of a photo .... When I plant I wet the soil that goes in the bottom half of the pot ... then I fill to the top of the pot w/ soil ... soil must be mild w/ no prefertilized ... I then put the seed 1/4" deep and wet the area around the seed carefully in a circle about 2" round ... once the seed germinates in 3-4 days I give it enough water to reach down to the damp soil in the bottom of the pot ... with each watering thereafter I water enough for the water to go close to the bottom of the pot in a circle around the seedling ... assuming you have light this should result in a plant ... hope this helps ...
