you need to research what you haveIE growing conditions, is it warm?? if not then hps are hot and provide heat, or its more money on climate controll, if its just a start a 400w hps set up will suffice to get you in, then as you learn, you may wish to expand at expense, this is the cheapest in tho, but if buying a cheap ballast 3 things, expect to replace it after a year, always have at least 1 spare bulb and change every season even if its not blown as the lumens and spectrums deteriorate, and always use a power breaker. i intitially set up for 100 quid, light ballast bulb shade seeds and pots, its kind of expanded since to the point im repoulating the amazon! but i think as a first grow, hps and soil is easy and will grow fine, as you learn look into other mediums to grow in, lighting etc, but for ease soil, light heat and water, yields may be slightly lower but will grow as you learn your space, bear in mind hps is very hot so never touch bulbs, even when off as when on the grease from hads will cause a hot spot and maybe a blow. i think 3 or 5 under a hps is the best start, learn as much off here whilst doing this, see how autods work, then move forward, dont go too mad as having 50+ like i do would ruin your mind, it does mine and im quite experienced! keep us posted on what you decide to use/grow

CFL's are the curly fluorescent bulbs that fit in a regular socket. HPS = High Pressure Sodium. MH = Metal Halide. HID = High Intensity Discharge (both MH and HPS fall into this category). T-5HO = slim, high intensity fluorescent bulbs that fit in a more traditional type fluorescent fixture. :peace:
