1.2m tent. mars hydro TS 3000. 6" extraction with carbon.
6-8 x northern cheese haze from mephisto in 5 gal smart square pots.

i have the following:

biotabs
startrex
orgatrex
mycotrex
bactrex

i DONT have access to biobizz but have found some organic "volcanic soil" from a local offering. they claim the soil will have enough nutrients for 8 weeks for seedlings. from what i can understand about the soil it contains some of the following: coconut shell, cow dung, bats earthworms, volcanic ash, clay minerals, salts, rock phosphates + more.

1) i was planning on putting the biotabs into the soil after about 2 weeks, as suggested by Mephisto but am worried whether i might burn them given the advice from soil vendor?

2) if the soil is already full of organic nutrients then can i burn my seedlings with the initial recommended feedings (before planting) of startrex, mycotrex, bactrex and orgatrex? any advice?

Hey dude, if you dont have access to a hydro shop for coco etc and can't order online i would suggest potting mix for seedlings or young plants.

Get the seeds you have germinated and pop them in small pots until ready to transplant. I have got a strawberry nuggets, 2 deez nuggs, the goldilocks zone and a mutated CDLC going at the moment that you can check out in 10L pots.

Peace.

it's recommended that the biotabs are used at the point of transplant then with just watering the nutes needed at both veg and bloom stage are slow released.

i've gone biotabs for the 1st time with my current grow and 1st lesson learned is that they take a little while to breakdown so light grow feed for first 10 days once transplanted would be highly recommended.

i know nothing about the brand of soling you are considering although in saying that the ingredients used look fine to me.

don't go rushing into a purchase as more educated and experienced peeps will no doubt chime in shortly.

I wont be doing any transplants. I will be germinating and then putting into final 5 gal pots.

Yes, I am aware biotabs take about 1 week to breakdown through watering. I was planning on putting the Biotabs 5cm under soil after about 2 weeks. Then by 3 week the nutrients should start to flow. Hopefully this will be ok and wont burn my plants. Should I wait longer than this before adding the Biotabs?

Anyone ever used volcanic soil with Biotabs?

Considering that I am using LED lights, I wonder if I will need additional Calmag, on top of the Biotabs?

i'd stick the biotabs 10cm down if you aint transplanting - the seedlings ought to have everything they need before they hit all the goodness then everything is primed. if you wait 2 weeks you'll be waiting another 10 - 14 days for the tabs to break down for the full effect.....in my experience of course.

cal mag is always a good product to have on hand - more so with LEDs that you are considering - may I ask which models you have on the radar?

no knowledge on the volcanic soil side of things though there maybe some info if you search? [not being rude!]

Ok so my first Biotabs run is under way. Unfortunately I have ended up with about 3 gal soil pots and put the bio tabs into the soil together with all the other stuff in Biotabs starter kit 8 days ago, along with my seedlings which were germinated in a glass of water in a dark place for 36-48 hours. For whatever reasons, I decided to kill these seedlings and planted new ones 3-4 days ago and they should be about to break above the soil either any day now. Might take 1-2 days extra this time to break the soil as i planted them deeper.

I have not put tons of water into the pot but have tried to keep the surface moist with a sprayer and in total have put about 2L into each pot total since the biotabs were put into the soil.

Should i be worried about burning my new batch of seedlings? Should i try to find the Biotabs and take them out and flush the soil? If yes, with how much water?

Secondly, i didnt use silicium flash (starter kit has orgatrex) so have picked up some CalMag and plan to start adding this ASAP. What
concentration should i use it?

Thirdly, with Biotabs should we be watering till runoff to avoid a build up of salts and nasty stuff in the soil? Is there an estimate age of the plant that we could avoid water till runoff to because my auto seedlings are small but in big pots and prefer to give little water, especially with my first question about burning and
trying to not activate the biotabs too much, even though im sure i have as they have had water.

Ok, I dug around in the soil and decided to remove the Biotabs. I am no expert but it seems like the Biotabs had soaked up a lot of water and were just becoming activated. Many blue balls inside.

I will wait for the seedlings to emerge before considering adding new biotabs to the mix. I even wonder if i should flush the soil a bit? but worried i might over water them when not even above the soil yet. some of the Biotabs were super close to where i planted the 2nd batch of seedlings unfortunately so they might not survive although it was done with as much precision as possible.

temps at 25c and humidity between 50-60%. normally is higher and will improve later this week. not much can do but keep it moist and spray.

any advice greatly appreciate given my unique situation. thanks all. damn, what a headache but maybe by acting now i have saved a few of them at least as those Biotabs were not really tablets anymore... :d5:

I do the full line of BioTabs and add 3 tabs (in 15ltr AutoPots) right at the start and haven't burnt them yet. The way I figured was it's all organic so the plants will take what they want, when they want.
I soak the pots on day 0 with 1.5ltrs tap water then leave them to their own devices for 10-14 days. BioTabs make life so easy.

Still not sure on your soil. Wait for the seedlings to emerge. Give us some photos when they do.

All popped above soil in the last 12-24 hours. Planning to put new Biotabs into the pots in a few days. 6 pots with 8 seedlings total currently under a Mars SP250. Temps 24-26c. RH is a bit low but doing my best to keep it above 50-60%. Not much I can do right now except do a bit of spraying throughout the day, but by end of the week natural weather will move RH higher.
