Live Stoner Chat Help! Im quitting smoking!

Just do it

If you're used to drink lots of coffee or alcohol, or hang on a bar drinking beer every afternoon, you might want to "lay low" for a while and get rid of the habit.

It takes some effort and commitment, but it sure aint rocket science

Very good tip. I stayed away from the bar for a month or so and it helped immensely. Learning how to drink without smoking was the hard part, now I want to quit drinking as much too.

Same here!

Im at just over 24 hours here. That nicotine is a sneaky fucker! Im a religious coffee drinker and will get headaches if I dont, but I find myself wandering if I have a butt somewhere or if I dropped a smoke in my car . . .

I know this sounds weird, but i left an entire pack on the porch where I used to smoke so I could walk outside, stare them in the eye and say "fuck you" every morning. It worked, I don't like being told what to do :D

I agree completely. I stopped drinking and taking drugs 6 months ago cold turkey. If you have to hide from your habits that you want to kick, eventually you will give in and lose. If I can't have a single beer or be around a beer without turning back into an alcoholic, I deserve to be one. Different strokes for different folks, however.

I wouldn't say anyone who is an alcoholic deserves to be one. Alcoholism is largely genetic... kinda like saying that if you have cancer and caint get rid of it you deserve to have it. I personally had to stay away from my regular spots to avoid temptation, and it worked im less that a month away from being a year without cigarettes... while you do have to take the bull by the horns to quit.. there are many different ways to follow through. Such as staying away from your usual smoking spots and pack buying stores, or not changing your routine and using the frustration to fuel the fire to quit. So I totally agree, different strokes for different folks:peace:

Yeah there certainly is a genetic predisposition to addiction, of all forms. Maybe deserve was the wrong word. I just feel that if you have to hide from yourself, it is not a sustainable plan. Granted, it is much easier said than done...

I'm in the same boat as piggy. I don't like being told what to do, and I only do things that I want to do. In my case, it was a lifestyle choice that I chose for myself. Once it got to the point of dependance, it was time to re-evaluate. If you want to quit something or make a change, you will. If you don't, then you wont. If the temptation is impossible for you to overcome, how can you possibly convince yourself that it is something that you DONT want to do? That wouldnt appear to make sense..

That being said, we all have our crutches. Everyone needs something to believe in, or lean on. Anyone who says otherwise is either in denial or has very little self awareness. Some people smoke, some drink, some do drugs, some go to church, some immerse themselves in books, some are emotionally dependant on others, some throw themselves into their work, some obsess over their children, some indulge in their hobbies. Find something else to throw yourself into that you love, and that isn't as destructive. It will change up your "Routine", and give you something else to look forward to instead of leaving an inevitable void.

I think we may have differing opinions. Nevertheless I just don't want to discourage people from avoiding places that will greatly increase their craving for a smoke. I worked for me and many others I know. I also know that its not for everyone, and everyone needs to find what works for them. I just want everyone to know that staying away from your triggers for a little while is Not setting yourself up for failure.

I had my last cig Dec 5, 2001 at 11pm. I smoked up to 2 packs a day for 30 yrs. I quit because a pack went up to $3, I couldnt stand paying that much, it cut into my mj buying money :-)) I used the Nicoderm nicotene patch, it really helped me. Nicoderm uses a step down system depending on how many cigs you smoke. I started on the 21mg (the strongest patch), after 2? weeks you step down to the 14mg patch then 7 mg patch. I didnt even need the 7mg I quit smoking after the 14mg:-)). Now a days some employers and even state agencies will help pay for your patchs, they are very expensive but not compared to the cost of cigs for the rest of your life. As someone posted there are aps and websites online that help you keep track of how many cigs you've NOT smoked and the money you saved, the numbers will AMAZE you!! Here are my numbers I've saved $10,622, NOT smoked 106,227 cigs, thats 5,311 packs and added 369 days to my life!! Nicotene is indeed very tough to quit, I've read studies that say its tougher to quit than heroine, HEROINE!!! For all those newly into quitting hang in there it DOES get easier! Tell all your friends the support from them really helps and you dont want them to know you couldnt do it do ya :-)) I also joined a online forum of people quiting, from those just starting to quit to those with years under their belt, again the support really helps! YOU CAN DO THIS!!! Of course having the right state of mind helps alot, you really have to want to quit. If you fail, no worries, try again. I cant even count how many times I tried to quit. Good luck!!

I'm going to add an Alternate view..we have been talking about along with the PH Theory in private meds..

IMO Smoking indicates that you have a metabolic problem..and you are using cigarettes to treat a low metabolic rate.

The Immediate effect of a cigarette is a small metabolic Boost..
so..1 ciggy = 1 x Metabolic Boost..1 x MB...

smoke 20 a day..your body is asking for 20 x MB's per day to keep your metabolism running correctly.

a cannabis smoke is 5 x stronger than a ciggy..so by the time you reach for a joint your body is looking
for 5 x the MB of a ciggy to keep it feeling Normal.

To Give Up smoking..without any side effects and no cravings..you simply switch to a Nicotine Patch that delivers the same doseage..you will be off smokes..with a
nicotine patch habit....but no withdrawls.

If you are having withdrawls or cravings..your nicotine patch isn't strong enough.

Your body doesn't chose the method of delivery of it's Metabolic Boost..You Do..

..
so you can choose to medicate it with a smoke...or a patch..but you haven't fixed the original problem..you still Need medication.

You gotta Cure the Metabolic problem..then there will be no Need for the metabolic boosters..your body will stop Asking for them

Simple As...no withdrawls..no Habit to break..no cold turkey or metabolic drop.

That is why your Need for ciggies disappears as we Fix you.

You simply don't Need them..

Might be Worth checking your PH..If you have a meter...

Idk about the cigs and low metabolic rate mossy, im not saying you are wrong, but I happen to smoke about a pack or slightly more a day and with or without cigs my metabolism is the equivalent to a pro athlete on steroids and meth. I personally smoke for pretty much lack of better thngs to do to keep me occupied. If im in the garden, workn I the shop or runni g around with the kids, I dont even think about smoki g and therefore dont. Its when im bored and idle that I tend to turn into a chimney lol but then again, I guess I could just be a freak.........
