Belated weekly update

I dropped 3 skunky monkey about 9 days ago. The first time I've ever dropped any seeds in a cup of water and had them sink to the bottom right off the bat. That had me a little bit worried. they didn't crack after 24 hours so I left them 36, that's my typical time with any seed. I then went directly into General Hydroponics Coco pre-charged with the general hydroponics Trio. Which is exactly what a general hydroponics rapid Rooter is, a pre-charge Coco plug.

Anyway after 7 days, I went looking around for the seeds and I didn't find a single one, what that means is they didn't even get a Taproot to help find them.

I've been debating how I'm going to start my next seeds I thought about abrading the outside and kind of an old-school way before dropping them but they sink right to the bottom so I don't believe permeability of water is an issue. This time around I'm going to go ahead and add in the paper towel method, I quit doing that a few years ago when some really vigorous seedlings would grow their Taproot into the paper towel and I would damage the Taproot removing them. But I figured using the paper towel will give me a chance to see if the Taproot will even emerge and I won't have to waste time if I don't see a tap.

So if that method doesn't work, I'm willing to try a little gibberilic acid. It's been known to help seeds start off that are bit old and I've used it in the past with some success. Looking at my heavyweight seeds package I don't see a date but there is a code.

Do we have a representative from @heavyweightseeds on board? always nice to have feedback from the vendor.

I've had one other time when I put down three seeds from the same company and have them not start, that was with Barney's Farm gear. At that time I bought them from the mug shop and I had some buds on another site the bought theirs from Herbie's and we all had some real significant germ failures, consequently I've never purchased any Barney's Farm stuff again.

So I dropped 3 seeds and I was very happy to see them still floating, I think that's going to be a very good sign compared to the others.

Where I'm growing
If you get a root grabbing the paper towel, trim the paper with scissors, and plant it. I'd rather a little paper in the soil than a damaged tap. Not had an issue doing so.

still no growth and has lost the brightness of the white it was showing on the 2 cracked FP's......third-nothing still.......Dropped 2 more into cup...dropped straight down to bottom....The seeds are all extremely tiny...I wonder date too...same thing ..old stock???

After suggesting we compare germ rates, and everyone's replied,
better put my own situation:

Photo Strawberry Cake:
Soak method 24 hrs, then to soil.
Dropped 4 seeds, all floating.
After 24 hrs, 3 sunk, one floating.
The floater and two sunk seeds had little taps.
The last sunk seed had cracked, but no tap.
I just planted into the soil.
After another ... 48 hrs, 2 popped out of soil.
And a 3rd was popping, just below surface.
Don't know about the 4th.

Auto Jackpot:
Soak method 24 hrs, then to soil.
I think 1 sunk, rest floated, after 24 hrs.
I think they all cracked, but no tap.
Planted into soil.

Temps at the time around 12C - 19C.
It's winter here.
They're kind of inside, inner balcony area.
So the outside window is always open.
The low temps not ideal for germ.
RH is high, maybe around 80%,
fair bit of rain.

The last I saw them was already ... 5 days ago.
I've been out of town.
Will be another couple of days before I get back.

FYI...

I put one seed straight into a root riot and put the root riot in the main pot. I watered it and put a clear plastic cup over it. I watered it the next two nights and on day 3 it popped. She will be on day 7 above ground Saturday and I will update pictures then.

I usually just tear the Paper from around the root
