Yes, Liquid Fence is a great product. Urine does work well but has to be reapplied after every rain to be most effective. Diatomaceous earth works well on slugs and snails. It has very sharp edges and when they crawl over it, it cuts their bellies. Place a ring of it around the base of the plants a few inches out from the main stalk, a couple inches wide.

I use ground oyster shells. Feed and seed stores sell them to feed to domestic birds to make their egg shells harder. They are sharp as hell and keep the slugs off of your plants. They also are a very good source of slow release calcium.

Hadn't thought about oyster shells but agree, they should work well also. I feed them to my chickens and guinea fowl for the calcium.

Very good tips Muddy and Nelson. I got some egg shells grounded to rough peaces have to try if they would work as well.
Blinky I'm more positive about your strategy after today when I first time lay my eyes to three plants that were been by them selves from 23.5. They were flowering nicely. two females and one male no mold any where, little bit eaten by snails and deers from the lower branches but healthy and full of seeds. :D I cut the male down and made some deer fence around it from sharp sticks.

Great advices people. Purple egg shells is old barrier for snails and source of calcium. Dust from wood and ashes is also very good for snails. See Purple my friend! After all we was almost right! With some more preparation and few tricks when planting, and we can have our plants on the auto-pilot! If you just plant another batch of seeds of that pollinated female, maybe you can see what is difference in your area and what % are survived. Just plant in the native ground without expences of buying soil, crystals and other things. You have nothing to lose beside 10 shirts of swet :D .I will plant some # of plant in the same soil with and without crystals, to see how our beautiful auto will respond. Then we can have better image of the whole situation. Plant you too Purple! If you can cut few grams that will be better then nothing free! Overgrow the planet comrades! Sorry for my wonderly bad English! Cheers!
