Hey Guys!
I'm new to the AFN and could use some help from all you seasoned growers!
After reading through 2 grow bibles, and a few months of research/planning I've got my grow mostly figured out. However, I can't figure out which grow location to go with and I have a few other questions.

I'll be planting 3-5 plants from a mix of the following strains:
Auto Hindu-Kush, Auto Purple Ryder, Auto Polarlight, Auto Tangerine Dream

I've chosen auto-flowering cannabis due to its ease in concealment and the fact that I can have multiple harvests per year, I just need to pick one of the following locations...

quick note: I'm headed to college so care/watering will be very restricted after germination and planting.

Site #1: I'm based in Florida, and the vegetation here is similar to that found in the Jurassic Park movies, dense jungle. This location is surprisingly close to my house, about 20m away, in an area we call "the pit." It's a dense strip of jungle roughly 70m long and 20m wide that seperates my neighborhood from the adjacent one. My brother and I are the only people that ever go in there (most people in my neighborhood are older). Anyway, in the center of this strip is a small 10x10 clearing with adequate sunlight. I'm only growing 3-5 plants and I think this spot will work, but I'm worried about the smell. Is it possible for the smell of the buds to penetrate the foliage? My family and neighbors can't find out and that could blow it, or could it? The plus side of this location is I could dig around in "the pit" without causing any suspicion.

Site #2: My neighborhood backs into a nature preserve, and there are telephone lines running through the center, and a trail to the preserve. I've scoped out a much more secluded area, but I have to walk through my neighborhood to get there, and then trekk into the preserve (illegally). The problem here is that it would be HIGHLY LIKELY that I would be seen coming and going from this location, so I really wouldn't be able to check up on my plants, and watering and nutrition would be a challenge. It's also impossible to get to without walking through my neighborhood.

Last Questions: Is there a relatively cheap method that would keep my plants watered? I've heard I can rig water-filled jugs to drip water consistently on my plants, and I've looked at auto-watering pots but they are rather expensive. If someone could point me in the right direction for an auto-water system it would be very helpful! (No sitting water or streams nearby either location)

Also, is it better to plant outdoor in buried pots or to dig holes and add soil?
All help is greatly appreciated

Thanks,
:toke:jacktheripper:toke:

Welcome for the watering you might want to check this out http://driwater.com/ ive never used it but was thinking bout it

Hey man welcome to the site! I lived in Tallahasse & loved it! Go Noles! Hey it rains nearly every day there & every 3 days at least rite? Make sure you don't have a trail leading to your grow. The smell should be fine in the woods to cover it. Old people are noisy & have nothing better to do than watch young people. Go at nite & w/ the rain maybe once a month, full moons are great don't have to completely rely on a flash lite. Watch out for bears, panthers, wild pigs, posoinous snakes, gators, spiders the size of diner plates, sink holes, & from what I hear pythons now:no:. Good luck & happy growing!

Thanks for the warm welcome guys. I'm leaning towards the grow closer to my house, I went in there this evening and scoped out my plot areas. Sniper, thanks for the info, I plan on ordering some of the cartons this week. Solid looking stuff! SBH, thanks for the heads up! Believe it or not I actually saw a bear in the area while I was snooping around this evening around 8:30. Pretty scary but stuff like that plus the mosquitos and snakes should keep people away from my site.

Welcome, Jack! Check out this thread for some great tips on making your own self-watering container: http://www.autoflower.org/f28/diy-self-watering-container-1675.html

I used to live in Central Florida and did my fair share of outdoor guerrilla grows. The best advice I can give is to start as many plants as you can, because a lot of them won't make it. Between the heat, thunderstorms, bugs, and animals that like to dine on tender greens, a lot of the grow will be lost. But when you can get one all the way to harvest, the yield is usually really good.

My neighborhood wasn't too far out into the sticks, but it backed up to a lot of salt marsh and woods. We had a bobcat family that wandered around like regular housecats, and we did see the occasional black bear also. But like you said, Florida's woods are no joke, and that keeps most regular folks from nosing around too much.

I'm pretty new at the indoor stuff but I've got a little more experience outdoors. When I grew outdoors, I wouldn't have known pH from B.O. but I never lost a crop to LEO's or thieves.

I would never put anything in a "clearing". I might put it just inside some bushes on the north side of a clearing, so I can get the sun from the south. Plants in a "clearing" stick out from the air.

I would not have the plants gathered together. I would look for little spots in the general area you want to grow. With photos, you can remove the chicken wire after a month or so, not sure about auto's. You want a spot that has some side growth to hide the plants, or at least camouflage them from side view. Once you get good at this, a person will not see your plants when they are virtually right on top of them, unless they know where they are.

I always liked to try and find a spot under a tall pine tree since the light would filter through very well but it would still provide some cover from the air. You might look for something similar.

I would never put out plants that were not protected by chicken wire. I always prepared the spot before I placed the bag down by covering the ground and vegetation in the immediate area with insecticide (pyrethrin).

Your water table should be low there. Plus, you do get frequent rain. If you have to carry water in, you will absolutely have to be able to do this without walking through the neighborhood each time... And you had better be in pretty good shape... 5 or 6 gallons of water is heavy to carry across my house, much less in and out of the bush that you are limiting accessibility on purpose.

The best solution I've seen to avoid carrying water, is one my ol' growing buddy came up with. He dug a well (with shovel) and forced a large can down into the hole well below the water table. After digging all the dirt out from the can, he had a reservoir. He set up a 12v battery, connected to a trickle charger, that was connecter to a small solar panel. He added a 12v timer and the next thing you know, he's got an automatic watering system. :peace:

EDIT: Oh DURR! He used a small 12v bilge pump to deliver the water. Sorry, he's the smart one. I couldn't begin to tell you how to do that. You ought to see his stealth grow area in his home... an absolute work of technical genius... automatic hidden access doors... amazing.

I would put it in a place or container that holds water for a couple weeks before I used it. The rust colored staining mixes in very well in the bush. Sorry, forgot to mention that. Thanks Smashed.

I don't see why painting wouldn't work too. But it's pretty easy to throw a roll of chicken wire in a ditch for a couple weeks... not much labor involved. :D

got any swamps? Find a place for hiking or fishing with a swamp. Then we can go thru the whole swamp tube 101.... I can even give you a link to other florida swamp growers...its cheap easy and water free...

YOU will need a place to load large Glad bags of weed into an auto......
