Hi everyone. O am not sure if this is posted in the right section but hoping it is OK to post here. Previous setup wasnt getting good air exchange so I've now installed an 8" rhino carbon filter exhaust and a 6" intake fan ( I have run pierced ducting across the length of room which is creating a nice breeze. The rhino vents outside of loft via an air brick 1. The intake fan is bringing in fresh air from outside from air brick 2. I am also running a tower oscillating fan.

The room is L3 x W1 x H2 in metres. I have a philzon 1200w led light. I have a few questions. Will I need to run the carbon filter 24x7 in pre flower? And I'm wondering if intake maybe a problem overnight as temps fall to 9 to 10oC overnight on average atm.

Humidity is averaging 50 to 60 using a wet towel draped over rack and that seems to work...will remove this when in flower, humidity is generally 40 without the towels.

The room gets warm, can get to 30oC ...I'm trying to avoid needing an air conditioner mainly because they are noisy and expensive to run. I have 4 slow growing seedlings in there that I hope will pick up soon.... they've been moved between in and outdoors this last couple of days. I would really appreciate some feedback on the new set up.....have I done enough?

Hello @Dory looks great to me.
The fact that you're addressing the airflow issue is a definite credit in your favour...

Will it all be enough, well time will tell as you check your RH & temps (especially as summer heat adds to the mix) but reckon the 6 intake and 8 extract should be plenty (assume your getting negative pressure when tent closed? (Sucked in tent walls))

Btw I've found an £7 'fogger' is great in a pot of water for adding cooler humidity to my veg/seed/clone tent. Uses about 4w of electricity, is silent and if I set a mechanical timer it pumps fine cool mist every 15 mins for 15 mins into tent. Works better than a towel. And a shed load cheaper than a standard humidifier, just make sure water topped up every day or two.

Good luck D'

Hi, thank you for your reply :) I really appreciate it. I don't have a tent, this is a room that has been built in the attic. It is fully insulated and is slightly cooler than the main loft space. It is half covered with Mylar to 1.5 metre, the Mylar is slightly pulling inward. It is an awkward space in some ways as it is very long and narrow meaning when the plants grow they will fare better if zig-zagged along the length of the space rather than how they are currently.

The humidity has dropped from 58 to 39% since running the carbon filter extractor and intake fan for 24 hours, I discovered this yesterday.... so I have been seeking a humidifier. I don't have the confidence to use some of the systems I have seen some growers use to control humidity.... am thinking a humidifier that senses when it needs to go on and off would be a good investment during veg stage. Today I have the extractor on for an hour every 3 hours which is allowing the humidity to build up but is compromising the exchange.... I am using wet towels but know this is a bit haphazard. I was also wondering if I could cover the plants with cloches until they are bigger but worry this will not give them the air they need.... growing your own is quite a science and an art to learn :)

Temperature wise.... yes it is tricky right now. Yesterday it was 31oC in there by 6pm. Overnight it was 22oC. These first four seeds are an experiment, I don't expect to get a lot from them, am thinking that if can get the environment right before I plant next lot of seeds that will be good. Apparently some strains are more heat tolerant than others, I may need to get something like Purple Lemonade which is meant to be fairly tolerant of temperatures to 35oC. I've been reading and researching now for weeks.... theres a lot of info out there. :) I have been getting quite worried and even began to think I may need to forget growing June July August in future due to having these heatwaves we've been getting the last two years.... I have a lovely south facing garden which would be perfect during summer if I didn't have prying neighbours. Can't take that risk. I am growing for medical reasons as I have a pain condition and problems with sleep and this is the only thing that really helps me.... I don't need big yield but at the same time don't want huge bills and nothing to smoke!

Is a fogger a humidifier? Am quite intrigued to know more about your 'fogger' solution.... have done a quick 'google' on foggers but didn't see anything like you explain... can you tell me more? I've been looking at a humidifier by Ultrasonic which is £83... but have been warned by another AFN member that this may not last very long. So today will be spent looking for a humidifier and trailing seed reviews, as well as doing some more research on strains more suited to grow this summer. It would be nice to enter the autumn with something to smoke or vape Next year I may have to skip summer grow projects.
