Mate of mine spent a few months up in the Rif, at Chefchaouen, he was hoping for some awesome hash, and even though he score some brown, it wasn't all that.
As majority is from the local genetics, this is nowhere near as potent as the ones we grow ourselves and he struggled to find sufficient quality to 'get high'. This was also the problem faced by the Scottish landlord of the pub he was staying at, who'd lived there for years, so it wasn't that he had a high tolerance. He tried to set the bloke up with European genetics, in an indoor grow, by the end lol.
Last time I was there, the Moroccan native sativa was almost impossible to find untouched, or pure. What we call the the classic 00
First beat.
The amount of "Pakistani" indica that was brought in to the Rif by then had already mixed with the local and Strains were already hard to separate. Especially since the demand for the much darker and resinous Paki was in high demand.
I have farmer friends in the Rif and I always stayed with them at the farm so I was lucky to have seen the process many times and even beat some plants, and beat my own pólen into hash.
And I admit it's very hard to go to morocco and find the good stuff.
Most people get to Chefchauen and that's as close to the Rif that they get. The business has taken over, and I'm recalling memories as like I said it's been more than 10 years I have not been there.
But the same goes for India, even up in Manali or Tosh it's still likely you will not get the best stuff around, unless you know someone that is willing to let go of some....
