Dutch Passion Groff Labs: AutoMazar - GN LEDs - Airpots - Coco vs Biobizz

Holy SHIT brothers!! Look what I found today in my grow room!!
I saw someone post that they put on stocking over the airpots... utterly brilliant! I was so excited that I forgot to sub to that thread, and I forgot the user's name... damn it, I really wanted to rep him!
Anyway, I copied it and it is great !!

BUT... today... I find this!! I've never ever seen this happen, ever !!

I really have to run or I'd take gzillion other pics... this is happening on BOTH coco mazars!

Bro you should try sitting them in stays and bubbling some feed in it. He'll it may work.... Imagine getting an absolute beast from it. :D

And btw what's does stocking do? Catch all the shit?

Looks like the stocking has given the roots something to grow on to instead of air pruning them.

And you know whats funny about this...? I already had that idea going round in my head before this happened !! I've got a couple ideas that I will try. Will open a thread soon.

Well, I copied it because it helps in watering. Coco is actually better than soil in airpot when watering, because you have to water slower. But in soil, you need to flood a bit for it to drench down evenly. The problems of doing that in airpots is that all too often the water find a nice clear path to a hole and just squirts out making a bloody mess of things. And soils shoots out as well, making the clear path even clearer with each watering. The stocking prevent the soil from shooting out and build a barrier. Water will also not squirt out, but trickle. Very neat trick.

ALSO, I've always had whitflies... thank goodness they've never been gnats! The holes in the pots are perfect nesting/reproductive sites. It creates a barrier, so no fly can fly out, nor flies can fly in. But air certainly does.. woo-hoo!

Looks like the stocking has given the roots something to grow on to instead of air pruning them.

Actually, no! that is whats so cool about it. They're coming out the bottom, not the sides. The stockings/tights/panties whatever... are not cotton, so do NOT absorb water (capillary action upwards). The tights go over the entire airpot, so not in contact with the bottom mesh of the airpot, they sit are below the level of run-off water. If you see the other pictures, you'll notice the roots come out from the entire bottom mesh of the airpots, not the exterior holes at all. It seems to me the tights are creating a super cool humidity dome promoting DWC style root growth.

But if it continues, I'm scared of root rot! Lets see how it plays out... Damn, I also have to start monitoring run-off :joint: Substitute run-off with proper feed...

Nice one groff and thats what i was thinking what about the bottom roots , as they would be , if in my tent sitting in about 2 to 10mm of run off but as im in coco this would be changed every day or 2

But dam good idea mate will have to try and find that thread , cheers buddie :peace:

Hey Groff, even if there was some root rot in the bottom roots couldn't you consider those roots as loss anyways, in the traditional airpot system they would be pruned, so you are not losing anything, right? I would guess that you don't want any unwelcome fungus in your pots, and I am glued to this one. Thanks for keeping us in the LAB LOOP!!!

Adopt, adapt and improve is the moto here!!
But yeah, airpruning is one thing, disease in the roots is another. A virus or fungus or something could develop and go up...? Got to keep a close eye on things
Just when I thought I had the airpots under control (pumping the water in the tray with a siphon pump instead of removing it)... I now have to constantly lift the plant to check the roots. go figure :joint:
