I think extracting psilocybin or psilocin is done using methanol (methyl hydrate) and vacuum filtration. I had an old how to manual for bulk extraction from lc mycelium. I would not be surprised if ethanol works although not all alcohols are equal in terms of solubility for some substances. Methanol is a way more toxic alcohol but easier and cheaper to find versus ethanol which is more expensive when looking for pure solvents although most of us are more familiar with the health effects of ethanol exposure .

You are correct. However, my goal is to simply get rid of the hard-to-digest chitin and not purify the actual alkaloid, I don't have the necessary equipment for that anyway. Methanol has to be ordered from an online vendor here and the price is quite steep because the law requires special shipping for hazardous chemicals. Still easier than obtaining ethanol, though.
I'm going for ethanol mainly because I don't wholly trust myself to not embalm myself

beautiful shrooms! Just saw thread, thanks guys. Recently did my second shroom grow. Did a bulk grow instead of PF jars, it was easier, more like gardening, great indoor fun.

Me too. I would've had an unlimited supply of horse manure but then I noticed there are wood chips mixed in... Haven't asked if they're cedar yet but I fear the worst.

My plan is to always have several bottles of ethanol tincture ready in the freezer. I made some recently and it was hands down the best method of ingestion as well as the best trip I've ever had.
