Welcome.
:Sharing One:

I have been asked by a few members what my germination method is.
So I have decided to post my process so it will be available to all to reference.
Let's get to it..

My method is using the following:
Root Riot cubes ( or Rapid Rooters)
Glad container
Wifi router ( cable or satellite box will work too)

I prefer to use Root Riot cubes or Rapid Rooters.
IMG_7824.jpg
When seeds cost $5-15 I like to make them germ on the first shot.
A bag like this cost me an average $25us.

Next,
Choose your seeds.
For this demonstration I'll be using my Little Richard beans.
IMG_7827.jpg

Now place a seed into the hole at the top of the rooter cube.
IMG_7828.jpg

Once the seed is in, push it down approximately 1/2" (12mm)
It should be far enough in the cube as to not be seen.

Now take the cube and soak under some water.
IMG_7831.jpg
Squeeze the cube so it soaks up the water.

You can tell it is soaked by the color of the cube.
When saturated it will be a very dark brown.
IMG_7833.jpg

Now take the soaked cube and pace it into the container.
IMG_7834.jpg

Make sure to label your beans!

Now seal the container.
IMG_7836.jpg

Now it's off to the wifi germination station!
IMG_7841.jpg

Now that your beans are on the wifi let them sit here in the sealed container for 12 hrs.

At the 12hr mark, open the container and squeeze the excess water from the cube.
IMG_7861.jpg
Discard this extra fluid.
Now take the freshly squeezed cube and place back into the container and place back on the wifi.
(Note: Don't squeeze all the water out. Keep the cube moist, just not soaked. )
IMG_7841.jpg
From here I will open the container once a day to allow fresh air in.
As well, I use this opening to make sure the cubes are still moist.

Each day open the container and re-moisten the cubes if necessary.
They will "sweat" out some of the moisture within the container.
Not a problem, I generally drip all the sweated water back onto the cubes.

Within a few days you should have sprouts.
IMG_8004.jpg
Once the bean has sprouted I take it out of the container and place it into a tray filled with a bit of water.
Now that the cube is no longer in a sealed environment, you must prevent it from drying out.
That is where the tray or dish of water is essential.
I now take the tray and place it under a CFL desk lamp. (blue 6500k spectrum is what I use)
IMG_8008.jpg
I leave the sprout under the light(light remains on 24 hours a day) until it has started to show it's first true leaves.
( I change the water out every day.)
Approximately 1-2 days.
IMG_8067.jpg(note: these girls sprouted within 8 hours of each other.)
Once the sprout has stabilized and shown true leaves, I then pot it up.
IMG_8075.jpg
The rest is up to nature! And us growers!

I have been using this process for years and have stellar germination rates.
Hopefully this will help someone to get a good and stress free start.

Thanks for checking out my germination guide.
Happy growing!

Welcome.

Hey ronin just got linked to this thread looking good I like the idea of the root riot cubes howlong do the y last in the bag or do you use em up.before that become a problem [emoji106][emoji106][emoji106]

Stoney I've used year old plugs try keep em sealed I soak them in ph water anyway even if they are dry

Thanks for the germination tactic. I used your method/papertowel method. I used the wifi box to germ two beans. Bean 1- San Tri Bajo auto fem, Barney's Farm.2- Quick One auto fem, Royal Queen. I was able to germ them in less than 23 hours using the box as a heat mat. And today they are successfully in their new air pot homes. Today I took a Carmel cream auto and am going to try ur method step for step with a rapid rooters. And see if I have success. Thanks again for your awesome post. Although one try was great I feel confident I will have many more happy beans from your method to come.yes one is a 15gal and other is 5gal is for a personal little test I'm trying.

Hello,I'm a new grower and I'm at the 10 day mark and I may have had light too far and stretched them,I've lowered it and they seem a little stronger, any tips for me to get them stronger.I really appreciate your time! Mike

You can barely see it but the back plant I had put a chopstick and twist tie/pipe cleaner to stabilize it when it got stretchy when younger and put a light breeze from the fan which will cause it to strengthen up the stalk.

I have 5 I am doing I have a temp controllable heat mat. Can you give me the temp of what it would be on the top of a modem and then I was thinking I would do them in individual containers still but place all of them on the heat mat?

My first post. I'm on my 5th grow and i haven't lost a seed yet (15). I grow in a mix of 3 parts FF OF, 1 part perlite, and 1 part Promix BX with mycorrhizae in 5 gallon air pots (blue bottom). I use RO water exclusively. Maybe just luck but I keep it simple. I put my seeds in a moist but not wet folded paper towel for 30 hours in the dark (needs to be checked that it doesn't dry out) and then drop them into a hole pre moistened that I poke in the soil just short of knuckle in depth (.75 inch) They have not sprouted at this stage or are just barely showing. I push a little soil to cover the seed and turn on the lights. I try to keep the temperature a little higher but I don't worry too much as long as I have it at 72 degree F. The seeds have all popped sometime between the 3rd and 4th day after planting.

Sometimes I have to take a rip so I can enjoy reading...as I sit in amazement at some of the over- the- top methods used to germ a seed and glad my computer doesn't record my comments if I don't type! But... to each their own...
All I can do is relate what I've done for years. In the early sixties (yes I'm ooolllldddd), high school FFA taught us about seeds. Germination takes 3 things....warmth and moisture and patience. Secondary needs are medium, light and more moisture and patience.
When I started growing, there was so little info to be found, no forums etc and browsing the herb growing section at the library was a bit weird. Finally realized cannabis seeds are no different than any other in basic germ needs. Of course, that was after losing seeds to paper towels, router boxes, etc. Going back to some teenage lessons, I get 100% germ by placing a seed in moistened medium under a dome...3/8-1/2 inch deep...on 80 degree heatmat. 90% of the time, the helmet is "dragged" off pushing up through that little bit of medium.
I tend to buy more seeds than I can grow so I do end up germing older seeds a lot. Still do nothing more than above cause there ain't any room to improve on 100%.
