Hello everyone!

I am currently germinating a few Barney's Little Cheese and AutoSeed Purple Cheese.

I have a 2x4x5 growspace, and I plan on keeping a total of four plants.

I have finally decided on starting these guys with T5s and swapping them over to HPS after about the third week. Now for my question, what would be a better lighting solution:

One 250w HPS centered in the grow room

or

Two 150w HPS spaced evenly apart

Thanks for any help.

I would think two 150 watters spaced evenly would be better but i have never used hps so im just guessing.

I was thinking the same thing. I figured 300 total watts spread over four plants would be better than 250 total watts centered.

Anybody else have any input or suggestions?

yer but you will wona lst ya plants to keep them low/even as you do not get as much penitration with 150 nowt wrong with them at all you just have to learn how best to use them :smokebuds:

i have grown pretty good under 1 -150 hps---i have pics---i had 7 plants under it could have done alot better but for 150 watt it did great .
i just added a second 150 side by side in a 2x4 with 8 plants in 2 1/2 gall on pots--you really dont need 5 gallon pots--2 1/2 gallon is good for me-if you need my help let me know!!!

Thanks stoneyhomer!

I want to make certain that I understand this completely.

A 250w HPS is a much more intense bulb than a 150w, so you have much more penetration. With the 150 watt HPS there will be "shady" spots at the base and under the larger fan leaves, so the light energy does not reach all the buds. Correct?

Could I remedy this by adding supplemental HO T5 along the ends and sides of the grow room?

Thanks

i dont agree with that for your grow area---400 watt maybe--2 side by side 150s will do you good---look at some of my pics with 1 -150 watt hps with 7 plants under it at once ill post link

I would rather grow with CFLs than this set up in a small space. My second choice would be LEDs. All high intensity lamps make way too much heat for small spaces. I don't do this start and turn on or off later philosophy. Let the plants get used to the lighting and then just leave it alone in my books. We are all different and it is your grow space and you are probably paying the hydro bill so do whatever you want. Two 400 watters in that small space is sure going to need serious cooling and air flow.

Thanks for the input littleT!

So I am starting to think that this combination of lighting should be perfect for my setup:

Two Floralux 150w HPS (http://www.htgsupply.com/Product-FLORALUX-150w-HPS-Mini-Grow-Light.asp)

plus

Three 4x24w T5 Fixtures (http://www.htgsupply.com/Product-HTG-Supply-2-Foot-4-Lamp-High-Output-T5.asp) One mounted on the back wall and one on each end.
