Right on... I always water until I get just a little bit of runoff coming out of the bottom. That seems to keep them well hydrated and prevents any dry / dead spots from forming in the soil.

BTW, I'm diggin the spiral staircase cola in the back of this pic big time!

i bet its part of my problem i have coirbrick/soil added to the top of soil mix
i worry the coirbrick keeps sucking all my water up

No worries bro, and that could be the case that the top layer is hoggin everything you give it. If you have something long and skinny with a somewhat rounded head (yeah, yeah, I know) you could poke that down through your pot in a bunch of places to create some pathways for the water to reach the lower layers. If there are spots that have dried out, they may have compacted to the point where they won't allow water to permeate.

Also might not hurt to take a dinner fork and cultivate the top half inch or so of soil. Breaking it up again will allow water to evenly distribute across the top of the pot before it goes down.

good call KS i use a hunderd stabs with a ice pick,, aeration,, even water absorption,, it works and its easy on the roots.
