I plan to go with airpots indoors. What kind of soil would you suggest for my first attempt? I'd like to try building soil next grow when it's warmer and I have more time to plan. As for pre-made soil I can buy, what do you all suggest? Will I need to add anything to it?

You might consider Coco Loco (Fox Farm) which is amended. It's coco that is treated a bit like soil. 6.3-6.8 ph range. I've been using it for a long time. I also use Fox Farms straight coco called Plain Jane Big Boy Pants. I've mixed the two, with perlite for my current run. I too am using Airpots. 3 gallon size. Lots o' luck.

@Belle If you really want to go to Live Organic Soil (at least what passes for it in some circles) for your next grow now is the time to make it. It needs time to "cook" and the longer the better. IMPO it takes years to establish true Living Organic Soil but we won't go there. There are some good threads and recipes in the Organic Soil Subforum check it out.

@AutoWonders which way would be easier for a new grower to go, with Coco Loco you need to know when to start fertilizing w/good nute schedule and with coco/perlite pre-charge and a good nutrient schedule? I wonder which is easier?

With Coco Loco and like Ocean Forest, you shouldn't need to nute for the first couple of weeks. As far as nutes, I start with the basic 1/4 of published amount, working up to 1/2 the published amount. I rarely go over 1/2. The first 2 weeks, my feed is low dose. A small ring around the seed each day. I'm am using distilled water, so I need to add a little bit of calmag. I didn't pre-charge the last two grows. Normally I use a bit of Rhizotonic and calmag.

Awesome, thanks so much for the info guys.

@Mañ'O'Green I figured it was going to take a lot of time to create a really good system for myself, but I'm up to it. Just need to get something going in the meantime.

These soils are both very good, the KIS is a lot better imo but the shipping on it kills me (about 50 bucks a bag at my location), the coast of Maine is carried locally so I usually go with that. When you use it mix in some spagnum peat to loosen it up a little for autos, I usually use a cold plug a little bigger than the size of my fist that I mix Wallace Organic Wonder myco in as a booster. Use the spagnum off a bale not the bagged stuff, the crap out of the bag is ground, processed, sterilized, cooked in a kiln then steamed to make it seem nice when you open the bag but all the life in the spagnum is gone
