New Grower First Time Grow Journal

Good tip from Oldster there.

I sit my seeds in a glass of lukewarm water, in a warm, dark place, until the seeds absorb enough water to sink when you tap them. This takes from a few to 12 hours.

Once they have absorbed that water i now plant them straight to soil and no longer bother with paper towels (this is my 12th grow).

You don't even need to make sure that the pointy end of the seed points down if you have your lights on, since the plant senses which way around it is and grows in the right direction.

Great tip oldster! I have never done it that way, I have just seen friends do the paper towel style germination and saw some nice results so I thought I'd do it how I know best but I do like the sounds of that if its going to bring my yield up or get the ball rolling faster. But could I switch now even though I've had them started already in paper towels? Thanks steelrat for you input on how you do things I have seen that done online do you get some good results from it? Thanks for your support too redrobbo It means A lot to me knowing that some people are really interested on how my grow turns out.
Much Love,

So I checked on my beans last night after 48 hours of germination 3 out of 4 had started to open but the taproot had not popped out yet so I left them in the container for another night and will look at them tonight after work, I have a question though about the Hempy bucket. I didn't buy and rapid root plugs so should I go in buy them or can I plant the seed right in the perlite? Sounds kinda stupid I know I'm just kinda confused. I think I might take a small handful of my roots organic and put in the bucket and try to make my own rapid root plug If spent a boat load on my whole setup and nutrients and I would like to save a little cash if possible. If anyone can give me some help I'd greatly appreciate it.

Anyone Here grown Hempy before? (POP22) ^_^ .. That can help MrSour get started??

All 4 of the beans opened up after 72 hours, so excited and A little bit nervous. I planted 2 of my dark devils and the 1 blue diesel in the soil of the finishing pots that have been presoaked. I put the other dark devil bean in a peat puck until it pops out in 24-48 hours (I'm hoping at least) and then she is going in the 3gal Hempy.

Sounds like you are off to a great start, interested in how the hempy works out. I have read about it some but have never tried it.

Thanks oldster I did it with perlite and vermiculite 6:1 if you're wondering, The one thing I'm worried about the most is I used miracle grow perlite from a big box store so its not very chunky, from what I read chunky is better...

You can plant directly into perlite. Perlite as a medium is used a lot in dutch buckets

yeah, the coarse perlite is what I use to mix in my soil. If it is like mine there should be enough finer stuff in there as well to do what you need in particular with the added vermiculite

thanks pop22 I didn't know if you could and didn't want to kill one of my ladies so I put her in the peat puck, and oldster its in the perlite I used for my soil pots so its pretty fine, Ill put some pictures of the pots online later so you can see.
