Power consumption...
So it's my first tent grow and I know CFL's don't use alot Of power but to avoid any paranoia I decided to lower the wattage used in my appartment. After all, I will be powering four or possibly six fans and two lamps for nearly twenty four hours a day and who knows what else I will be adding in the future, more lamps? It can be quite costly to do so but I guess it will make a difference. All my domestic lamps (living room, computer desk and bedrooms etc etc) were using 50w lightbulbs and my ceiling fixtures were using 65w lightbulbs. So yesterday I set out to buy some energy saving lightbulbs. There was quite a choice but I went with the Philips Genie Energy A Class 10 year 10,000 hrs.
Just to give you an idea of the difference. I bought 5 lightbulbs for my two domestic lamps in my livingroom each lighbulb uses 11w of power but is equivalent to a regular 50w lightbulb. So one lamp that had 3 lightbulbs used to use 150w (3x50w) but now uses 33w (3x 11w, but emits an equivalent or slightly more amount of lumens). I have replaced the majority of my ceiling lights with my new 14w bulbs which are equivalent to your average 65w lightbulb. I think this will make quite a difference especially if you have children, I do not have any yet.
These lightbulbs are quite expensive though, they cost between 8.99 and 10.15 euro each but they last alot longer. But I feel they are a good idea even if you don't have a growing project. I will be replacing the rest of my lights today that's for sure.
Well that's all for now...
Shake a hand, be nice.
