Hi guys, long story short I came across some seeds that I found at a train station when looking for some weed that I dropped, so I rushed home did some quick research and got my seeds germinating in a cup of water right away.

At first I did not know what strain these were or even what autoflowers were OR let alone have I even attempted to grow before :/ but im excited and determined so the next morning (about 18 hours later) I check them and I see the white taproots have started to emerge out the bottom, only just a little though, so I decided to put them between some wet paper towel inbetween two ceramic plates & wait til they are really stretching out looking for that soil.

Almost another day goes by (about 16 hours later) and the taproots are showing true colours (pure white - I only have photos after I planted them), I decide its time to carefully place them in my seedling pots that I found laying around and waited another day and a half before I could just see them emerging from the 55/45 local coco coir/perlite medium I ended up purchasing for $28 a bag (at this point still not knowing what autos are or what strain the seeds are).

As you can see they sprouted properly about 2 days after planting them in my medium (I planted them roughly 1 inch deep and loosely covered it back up w/ coco and perlite, watering with roughly Ph'ed tap water with a PPM of 220 until there was about 20% run off).

At this point I managed to get my hands on 2x used 400w HPS bulbs & ballast except one ballast is not working, a 600w bulb with no ballast, a Ph pen with a broken bulb, a few Ph aqua test kits and a working calibrated EC meter (which I had no idea what any of these really meant or did at first so as I got it all for free of my uncle, I didnt really use them up until about 5 days after planting).

I set everything up in a cupboard in a spare room, at first I just hung the 400w light about a meter from the medium using the power cord as its harness dangling from the clothes rack but I soon put together a DIY reflector for the light so it could shine horizontally and be more stable. Please note I do not work and hussle to get by so I cant always get the best of everything.

Today I was playing with the keychain I found the seeds in and realised it had the strains written on the inside - Candy Kush AU & Trans Siberia AU - a quick google told me that these were autoflowering seeds and that they have a different lifecycle to regular photoperiod strains. Further investigation led me to an early and careful but also newbie transplant into 3 individual 10 gal pots (I think) filled with the same medium although this time I flushed the medium thoroughly before planting.

Edit: Forgot to mention that just before I transplanted them I had gotten my hands on the flora nutrient trio: grow, micro and bloom, also a bottle of cal/mag.

I went ahead and mixed 1/8 tsp grow, 1/8 tsp micro, 1/16 tsp bloom and a tsp of cal/mag into 4L of water and did a quick Ph which came to about 6.5 on the aqua test, poured about a litre into each pot over the morning hours before transplanting and a few hours after.

WARNING: from what happened next and what alot of people on here say it is not good to give autos nutes until about 12 - 24 days into seedling/vegetative stage depending on the strain. Maybe even more with some I believe.

Thanks for reading, I am looking forward to learning all I can from this great forum & from this grow.

Feel free to ask any questions about the grow and if you have any concerns or tips, I would love for you to share them.

The writing and all that is not as good as yours, but hey, its a good way to keep track on how things are going - the more reputable guys on here are extremely helpful so you defo in the right place for assistance

hi and welcome :pass:
shame you lost your bag o weed, but looks like you landed on your feet anyways.
lots to read and research on AFN.pop into live stoners if you get stuck.
good luck.
:pighug:

Yeah me and my girlfriend were so spun out, we didnt even realise there were seeds in the keychain til about 6 hours later when we got home. Live stoners eh? I'll remember that thanks for pointing me in the right direction

Welcome to AFN, and great job setting it all up.
So the first thing you can do is get hold of a reflector for the lamp, they are pretty cheap or improvise one, as you are loosing a lot of light upwards. This will help focus the light to the plants.
You will need to find a way to renew the air in. The closet, assuming it's not air tight a small fan will do the trick for now.
As your space is limited vertically you should start to learn all you can on LST methods to keep the plant nice and low.
As for nutrients autos are picky at the start and never need as much as photos, that said you are growing in coco so you will have to start sooner than if in soil, just consider coco as sterile.
As for coco I know nothing about it yet but there are thread here just on coco growing, a suggest you go through it.
Well, that is all I can think of for now.
Any doubts feel free to ask, I'm a noob as well, but I do my research.
Happy growing

Thanks for all your replies and help guys there is so much knowledge on this forum its unbelievable!

Ok, so to carry on from earlier:

DAY 4 / DAY 5

I woke up early this morning and checked on my plants first thing as always. I notice that on the middle seedling the leaves have started to sort of curl/point backwards, not knowing why this was I thought the light could have been too close, so I went and moved the plants off the buckets onto the floor (about a foot further).

As you can see I placed a "poor mans aircon" just below the fan as its a hot climate where I am and temps were getting above 31° C - 36 ° C. As of today the soil was still moist but I decided to share the remaining litre of water / nute mix I had among the 3 in hopes to aid the temperature as well. Temps ended up dropping to a steady 28-30 ° C when I kept ice in the "bucket-conditioner".

DAY 6/7

A late morning today as I had a late night keeping an eye on my plants, I find myself immediately googling for answers when I discover the leaves on the middle plant just pointing way too far back for my liking, so some more heavy reading suggests that my plants are being FRIED due to giving them nutes at only day 2 or 3.

I quickly fill up a 6L container of clean tap water, PPM of 230, EC of .2 without even letting it sit and flushed each pot equally, in hopes to drain the nutes out of the medium completely. I also went to the local shop and got a cheap soil Ph test kit and tested the Ph which read about a 6/7. A couple hours later I flushed again and watched the seedlings over the afternoon and night hours as they slowly dropped back inwards toward the centre, ahh what a relief.

Side note: Up until now I had my 400w HPS on a 18/6 light schedule, from days 4 - 7 I was leaving the lights on a 20/4 hr - 24 hr schedule (as my timer stopped working). I also installed a mini desk fan near the light to hopefully move air out the top of the cupboard space (I am sure this is working fairly ok).

Doesnt matter about writing man as long as you have something to look back on and for others to see clearly, its probably easier reading if you keep it simple anyway.

I just cant help but go into detail lol

But I love your set up brother I will definitely be putting more time into a setup like yours on my next grow!

Thanks for the handy tips man, you were right about the nute thing, as you can see in my previous post the plants did not like early feeding. I ended up clearing the problem and they went back to good health if you look at the photos above. Will post up some more when I get time later tonight or tomorrow.
