I started my first ever grow with materials I already had for the most part. I bought seeds and a timer. I know my soil and lights are not ideal but they will get me started and I won't be heavily invested if I find that growing is not for me. I've been lurking here and reading allot and decided I should start a grow journal so my first post isn't in the infirmary if I should need help from members here, LOL.
So, this is what I started with.
Northern Lights Blue Auto by Delicious seeds. Just one plant for first grow.
2.7 gal standard pot.
Soil is 50% Miracle Gro General Purpose Garden Soil and 50% Natures Care Organic Potting mix(by Miracle Gro). Yes, I know the general consensus is that Miracle Gro is not ideal. It's what I have on hand so it was free. Also, the general purpose mix time release nutes is only good for up to 3 months so I'm hoping it will be better than the 6 month time release of the potting soil.
Well water. Hard water with a ppm of 287. Mostly calcium with other unknown minerals. I do not know the ph.
Lights for now is T8 florescence with 3200k bulbs. 4 4' tubes at 28watts each. I had these sitting around. I will be buying and adding one of the cheaper 300w equivilent led lights(Mars Hydro, etc) in a couple weeks, hopefully before full flower. 20/4 schedule.
Closet. I had one already, LOL. Bonus, it has an electric outlet in it for some reason.
Temp is 75f. Humidity 42%
I dropped the bean directly in soil in the pot it will grow in. Plant is 1 week since germination today.
Problems to solve already; soil came with fungus gnats. I knew this when I started so I've anticipated having to get rid of them. There are only a few so far and I have treated the soil with hydrogen peroxide once. I may have to treat again the next time I water. I also have sticky tape to catch adults.
I'll be back in a few to try and post a pic.
Thanks for reading and I'm always open to advice and any help I can get. My goal is simply to have fun and raise/harvest a healthy plant for personal use.
