The surface damage looks like thrips snacking on the sap! They are very mobile, often not seen at the scene of the crime

..leafhoppers and kin cause similar damage, ditto on being sneaky.... Infestations can be treated with a spinosad containing product, but scope the plant out top/bottom/underneath leaves for eggs and less mobile larvae... They will still actively evade you while you hunt, so keep that in mind!
I like spinosad products because it's food safe, minimal residue, low odor, and breaks down outside after a week or so.... again, use a wetting agent when applying, far better effectiveness! I like Coco-Wet best...
