Hello everyone.

As the title says, this is my first autoflower grow. I have done one previous grow that was extremely unsuccessful. So much that I didn't even harvest, although I did learn a lot from it!

So my setup is within a walk-in closet. The approximate dimensions are 5'x3'x8'. (width x depth x height). I ordered 60 day wonder feminized autoflower seeds (x6) from The Attitude and received Blue Hash x 1 and Critical Mass x 1 as my extras for free. I was able to get 5 of the 60 day wonders to germinate along with both of the freebies using the paper towel method.

I didn't take pictures up until this point so I'm not starting directly at the beginning with this journal and I apologize for that. I'm currently at day 23 from the seeds germination. The pictures below will show you my current setup. I do have a log file in excel I have kept from day one. If anyone thinks this could be beneficial please tell me and I’ll try and link it somehow.

The equipment I am using is as follows:
- 400 HPS with external ballast x 1 (Veg and Flowering)
- T5 fluorescent tube with 2 bulbs x1 (Seedlings)
- 1.25 gallon pots x7
- Fox Farm Ocean Forest for soil
- Nutrients: (All Fox Farm)
1.) Open Sesame (weeks 2 - 4)
2.) Beastie Bloomz (week 5)
3.) Cha-Ching (weeks 6 - 8)
- A seedling / germination kit picked up from Home Depot. (Very difficult to use when transferring to the 1.25 gallon pots!)
- Soil PH / Moisture / Light meter
- Water PH paper meter
- Thermometer / Humidity meter

A few things that I have noticed and learned so far this grow:

1.) Some of the leaves started to slightly "taco". I felt that it was from the light being to close and too much heat not properly being ventilated. To fix this, I lifted the light about 3 inches while awaiting the results. I also installed two fans, one in the back right, that oscillates which blows air lightly on the plant to build stronger stems. The second fan is located at the entrance / exit exhausting air out of the closet into the living room. The final change I did was too mist the leaves either daily or every other day to ensure moisture levels, prevent overheating and stress. I will probably lift the light another 2 inches tomorrow if the plants continue to look healthy and stop tacoing up. I will also continue with misting the leaves to ensure that the moisture is adequate.

2.) I let the water sit in the 5 gallon containers for a minimum of 48 hours prior to transferring it to the 1 gallon containers. I did a PH and chlorine test after the 48 hour time period and there was no chlorine and the PH was slightly below 7.0. The little strips are difficult to read with matching the colors but it was between 6.5 and 7.0 so I feel comfortable with that.

3.) I feel that I didn't need to purchase all the nutrients I got because the soil (FFOF) is good enough to last about 30 days without additional nutrients. With that said I probably will only use Beastie Bloomz once in week 5 and Cha-Ching three times from week 6 until 8 and possibly again in week 9 depending on if it takes more than 60 days. So I think I did waste about $10 with the Open Sesame nutrient because I don't want to cause stress or nutrient burn in weeks 2 -4 while the soil still is holding the proper nutrients.

4.) So you may have noticed I uploaded an image of my cat. This is because the day after I transferred from the germination kit to the permanent pots that they are now in, he got a hold of #4 of the 60 day wonders. He actually brought it completely out of the soil and was chewing on the last remaining root when I just happen to be walking by. I was so pissed I almost threw it away (along with the cat…) but figured I would try and save it]. I am surprised at how well it has come back! These plants are extremely durable. Now #4 doesn’t look like the rest of them but…. I think for what it has gone through it doesn’t look to awful bad.

Thank you for reading my wall of text! I look forward to keeping this up to date. If anyone sees anything out of the ordinary from the images or from what I have said please tell me! I’m new and still have a lot to learn so any input would be very much appreciated.

looking great mate :)

I'm doing my first indoor grow and have an almost identical set-up as yours... Open closet, same HTG 400w. By the look of your plants, you seem to be further along in your grow. May I ask how old these plants were when you took the pics?

Thanks Asi! I really am trying to grow these properly and do a good job with them.

Stjr2k- This is the best and most realistic setup I could do because of space. Reason I went with HTG for lighting is simply because of price. They seem to offer quality products.
I took the pictures on Monday night. (11 April 2011) I started counting day 1 as the day I started germinating the seeds since the instructions for the seeds stated that they would be completed in 60 days. At any rate, Monday was day 22. I watered on day 23 and have seen significant activity since then!

I'll keep you guys posted and will try uploading more images at least once a week incase anyone else is following.

I will be updating this journal on Saturday (16 April).

I'm hoping to get a few more followers for my journal to help me out with this first grow.
I will be regularly adding more images as well as any information I have gathered from that weeks growing.

Thanks!

By the look of your plants, your learned from your first grow. I'm about a week behind you but my plants don't reflect that... yours look much better than mine do at almost the same stage as when your pics were taken.

There are a few things I've done (noob stuff) that cost me but, hopefully, those things have been corrected and didn't cause any irreparable harm.

We're both using FFOF. When did you introduce your seedlings to the FFOF? I have just re-potted mine into FFOF and I'm slightly concerned with nute burn.

I look forward to seeing your new pics.

Hey stjr2k-
Thank you! My biggest problem the first time around was my lighting and watering schedule. I was using a construction flood lamp. Yea... I know, I was young and dumb. :(
I was watering entirely too often also because the flood lamp was drying everything out which was just causing a lot of problems.

I transferred the little sprouts from the germination tray to the FFOF pots on day 12.
I had heard from others that they waited until day 20 but some complained of plants being rot bound by that point or that it was just too late.
Additionally, I wanted to make sure I waited long enough because I had heard if you transfer to early the heavy nutrient soil can cause stress and create males.

Good luck on your grow!

Wow, that's a lot of space. Everything is looking great. I've been wanting to watch some wonders run. Can't wait!

Thanks for the reply... especially, since this is your thread. :)

Seriously, your reply brings a sigh of relief. My plants have been starved. They are responding to the extra room and nutes almost before my eyes. I know this has already dramatically affected my yield but, if half of them turn out to be fem's, I'll be able to get what I need until I can harvest another grow. Once again, you've got some beauties there. I look forward to following your progress.

BTW, have any of yours shown sex yet? Or, are you using femmed seeds?

Day 27

Hello everyone!

Wanted to check back in and give some updates.
As many others have said, pictures really don't do them justice. I have to completely agree especially since I have a really crappy camera!
Anyways, don't know if you can tell, #4 is still slightly behind on growth due to being uprooted and chewed on by my cat about 15 days ago.
Other than that everything seems to be going well.
I will probably start nutrients next watering which will be either tomorrow or the following day.
Three additional things to note:
1.) The smell is starting to really kick in! I live alone so it is not a problem but I do leave a window open in a nearby room to allow fresh air in.
2.) The Blue Hash is not growing very vertical at all. It is extremely dense, but definitely the shortest. Was curious if anyone else has had similar results from this strain?
3.) Critical + is a beast! It is outgrowing all the rest with height, pretty thick and has some massive leaves on it. Really like this one and will probably have to transplant in a week or so again to a larger pot. Probably 3 gallons.

stjr2k- Thank you! I enjoy your responses as well. I wish you the very best in your grow. The 60 day wonders are feminized but the Critical + and Blue Hash are not. I have not seen any balls yet but continue to look. I'm not sure if they are showing the little hairs yet as I'm not that good at seeing them so just trying to look for the balls. lol.

gearbear- Thanks. Yea, I have a decent sized closet to use. If I expand to more plants in the future I will probably get an additional light and exhaust for the heat.
