Ive Stopped All Fimming and Topping since reading it dont work on Autos. Ive noticed that things do affect them. 2 of my plants were moved from the 2700K CFL tent to the bottom of a 5000K HPS tent and they both just sat there for a little more than a week then exploded in growth. Another has grown much too tall and is chasing the light to the roof. Can I Supercrop her and head off the height? It worked great with term plants producing many more buds & colas but Im Wary because of the posts her that fimming and topping dont work and may indeed hurt an automatic plant.

Anybody know? :toke:

I'm no expert but I think you're right about fimming and topping. The recovery time is the main factor I think given that autos have such a small veg cycle. I'm not sure about supercropping, I don't see any reason why it shouldn't work, but I think the best method by far where autos are involved is LST, depends how far along your girls are though

I have tried supercropping and although it will work I think you would be better off trying LST. Any type of shock really seems to slow these autos growth.

I know what topping is but what is fimming? If your gals are getting to high you can slowly bend them down with a string until they are horizontal, this has to be done a little at a time so the stem dosn't snap.

I think no topping or FIM on autos used to be the rule but now its more about the variety, Mitch Conner is doing a test grow of some secret garden seeds genetics, Ogre x pinkbud i think, it is a large plant and he's got most of his topped but since they "veg" longer as a larger strain i think its goin to work fine for that, so i'd think super auto's are ok to FIM or top but most autos i'd Just LST

I've super-cropped or topped I don't know what its called sativa dom auto's quite a few times. I always crop the earliest I can as not to remove foliage. I believe that is the trick for doing it on auto's. The 16 weeker's I topped at the second node to produce 4 main cola's. The 9-10 week ones I top at the 3rd node to create 6 main cola's then lst, its like a little bush. works for me

Seems quite reasonable. Its got to do with the nodes and the harvest time. I got to do it.

Thanks Yall

Hey guys, I've been experimenting with this too, and have topped all of my AF's (2 strains) in my current grow thread.

It's my soecond round of experiments, the first round I topped some, fimmed some and left some natural.

I didn't like fimming, it seemed to cause the most delay whilst the plants worked out what was going on, and wasn't very predicatable.

My best result came from topping, creating a nice uniform plant with 6 fat main tops at an equal height, which resulted in a better yield than the plants I left alone.

I think what you need to bare in mind is the strain, (grow them first naturally and see what kind of structure they have, Indica/Sativa dominance etc, and also how long their veg/pre-flower stage is before growth haults and it's switched to bud production)

Second point is the timing of the topping, Obviously you can top too late and won't reap the real benefits of it. Or also too early IMO can stunt development.

If you have just a few plants, Or plenty of time to play I'd say LST would be the kindest option to your plants. Another reason I went with topping as it was a very time effective way of training, one snip at the 5th or 6th node, then whip off the branches at the first node and job done more or less. (my af tent is just for fun at the moment, most of my time is devoted to my photo tents, so they dont get much of a look in)

One thing I liked about topping is it's fairly predictable what the plant is going to do, allowing a nice regimented grow.

I haven't had it happen for some time, but on the earlier AF's there was a trait that would pop up where plants would top themselves.. was interesting to see.

Dont know how to respond.
Youre the first one on this site who has said anything good to say about topping Autos
Yet youre still a photo man which I dont unnerstand at all. Auto is the only way for the small indoor grower
Ive just had a good deal of success with LST You just cant stop them from growin'. Hourly. And this is late day LST - after the 8th node
Im lovin it. The isolated buds shot straight up into what look like will be koalas.:smoke:
