Fiber optic cables direct light straight to fan leaves.

Couple things real quick. The Giant Blue Morpho, aka morpho didius is a large blue butterfly whose wings exhibit a property called iridescence. The color of the wings shifts with the viewers perspective, curiously though the actual color of the butterfly wing has nothing to do with what it looks like. This is an area of science called biomimicry - copying life verses reinventing the wheel. The wings color shifts because it is covered in millions of microscopic scales or tiles... almost like overlapping shingles on a roof. The length of these scales are in the nanometer range, just like visible light.

Just like visible light. So if you want a panel that only reflects visible light, cover it with millions of tiny iridescent scales at peak PAR nanometer wavelengths and it will reflect only that light, absorbing all others.

We've already adopted this tech into digital displays. Only a matter of time before I or someone else adapts it for passive light distrobution. If you beat me to it, well played, but you gotta buy me dinner once!

Man your coming with some sweet ideas in this thread

Before you go out and slaughter heaps of butterflies to test this, know I never wanted that, we can do it in a lab with no harm to the insects. Please dont kill, well, dont kill the beneficial ones at least. ;)

Dam,I was thinking of hitting up the tropical butterfly house to snag a few for my grow tent walls :D mission aborted

Since butterflies, people, and cannabis have all been around for so long I have to wonder how original these ideas are. I have searched the other cannabis forums and a few years back someone suggested fiber optics and they even noted the heat issue, how light could be transmitted around objects without heating the plant, but nothing came of it... just makes me wonder if theres a cave we havent found in china with walls lined with butterflies and a fire with sea salt burning to produce red light - that works by the way. Burning chemicals give off tell tale light spectrums. Thats how we know what the sun is made of and all the other visible stars. What did you think the sodium was in high pressure sodium?

So how old are these ideas and will they work in my lifetime?

Old ideas may have been to advanced for the tech available at the time mate, but today's tech may well bring some of those old ideas to life,I'm watching you all the way bro.

Pshh, you guys inspire me. Let's get it started.

I ordered some secondary lenses and FO cable. I'm kind of excited, but it still means a lot of work.

:smelly:

I went with Highrise Ghaze x C99 beans. I'm not going to germ them till my rig is stable, but till then I'll be reading up on coco grows, drip irrigation and plain jane optics.

Recent snowfall has tied up the shipping lanes, but in a few days I should have more hardware to work with. I just can't wait to test out all my theories. My idea machine is working overtime but I need these stupid plastic bits!!!

In the meantime, I've been wondering just how many led companies there are today. Fero, black dog, apollo, magnum, cidly, grow northern, cali light works, bsled, and thats just off the top of my head. Anyway...
