i don't know either lol I think the you tube videos say it helps taste because the water takes more of the green taste out. I hope that is not whats making it not work.
 
I think you may have gotten water curing and oil making confused. Water curing does remove a lot of the taste and smell but that takes a week of soaking the weed in water, changing the water daily. That is done before making the soil. Once the water cure is done you can then put the weed into the crock pot with oil only, and slow cook it for 12 hours.
 
I use water with butter, but have never used oil directly. Water keeps the butter from burning in your crockpot. It also gives a little more liquid to cover plant material. when you use water the water ends up NASTY looking. That makes me believe it is also removing chlorophyll and other things that might other wise end up in the oil.
