Ive got 12 AKxDD seeds in a bag w/ bananas. I dont have enough seeds to do several runs with controls, so this is just for fun. If it looks like it makes a diff, Ill re-run it when I have more seeds...

So I put 10 of the etylene treated AK-47 x DD seeds on paper the other day and all 10 popped. The got planted 2 days ago, and all 10 hit blue sky today. I cant wait to see what I get for girlies!!

Once the seed has formed there is nothing you can do to change it .The male and female genetics are in the seed from the start. The only person who could change that is the same person that turned the water into wine.If you can get him to work with you let us know and maybe he can join our forum.

He works with me 24/7, namvet! Id be lost without Him! Theres a lot of people who think environmental influences can change the sex after the seed is made... I'm no scientist, so I have no clue- I just thought it would be fun to do...

I heard the same thing about putting apple peels around a plants stock to make it show sex earlier in photo type plants. I tried it and it diddn't seem to make any difference. I am all for you trying to induce plants to sex change in the seed. I did a pole here once and over half the people believe that sex can be influenced by enviormental conditions. I am skeptical and think plants sex is in the seed and there is nothing you can do to influence it. The only thing I ever tried was too bunches of seeds from the same run. Half I germanated at 70 degrees and half at 85 degrees. The warm tray was supposed to have more females than the cooler tray. Well that sure wasn't true the cooler tray had a better ratio of females to males. That theory was busted. What did happen is I got much better hatch rate from the warm tray. I have hatched with warmth after since. Why does everything I know seem to come to me by accident?

I've heard this before but think it's just an old wives tale.

Good for you,you have a pretty knowlegable guy helping you ,after all its his miricale plant and he will guide us all.

what about hermies? they start out as male or female and can change from stress? or enviromental changes?

Very true, Astro. Also, Colodial silver changes shes to hes. I think of that as more like a sex change surgery. True, the female now has nuts, but its still a she in her DNA...
My guess is that sex IS determined at seed, BUT, certain influences may be able to change it, (Gas, chemicals, hormones, temps, plastic surgeons, etc...) at least on the outside.

Just my thoughts... nothing to base em on but my hunch. But, hey. If nobody experimented, we wouldnt be very far ahead in this game. And, like Nelson said, many advancements have been the result of 'happy accidents'. And many wives' tales have a bit 'o truth tucked away in there somewhere...

If sex is not determined in the seed. Could fem seeds even exsist?

If a female produces male flowers who's pollen carries no XY chromosome. Isn't it still a female?
