between 4 pc fans or a bathroom fan what would u recommend? also im still unsure of soil or diy dwc bucket. which is easier to maintain and cost less up front?
also whats your opinion on hempy buckets?

The bathroom fan definitely pushes air through a duct better. But the PC fans are nice because they're quiet and cheap, and they do move a good amount of air if you get powerful ones.

I've only grown in soil so I can't comment on the other methods. I may try dwc/hempy at some point, but I don't think there's anything more simple and cheap for a beginner grower than soil. You can get a pot, a bag of unnuted top soil, and some orchid nutes for well under $20 bucks. That's all you need to be off and running, except maybe some perlite if your soil is heavy. But I'm sure there are others who have done a first grow with something other than soil, so hopefully they'll chime in with thoughts about the cost and ease of use.

Hey guys just to let you know what i have so far.
1. 2 stacked rubbermaids 18gal each
2. 4 23w 6500k for seedling/veg 2 42w 2700k lights and 4 23w 2700k for flower (built AB's pvc light fixture)
3. 3 pc fans of unknown cfms. one is more powerful than the other two.

Questions i have
1. should i use more powerful fan as exhaust and other two as intake or vice versa. Another option is more powerful one and one other for exhaust and just 1 for intake.
2. what sized pots should i buy
3. would 2/3 FFOF and 1/3 perlite be a good ratio

Thanks to all who reply. You guys are a great help

Sup snickers,

I would do a passive intake instead of the fans.

Just remember that the intake should be twice the size of the exhaust.

Some one else will probably chime in but thats my 2 cents...lol

so for the exhaust would you recommend just the one powerful fan or multiple fans

Yeah just use the good 1

Believe it or not but i used a nice high cfm 92mm fan to exhaust a 24" x 24" x 48" box before with 276 watts of cfl's that i helped a friend build.

If you have your intake and exhaust set up right it don't take much at all.

2/3 FFOF 1/3 Perlite would give you great drainage. I'd say that ratio is optimal, just remember by sacrificing some of that media you can start feeding earlier, but not too much earlier - still want to give the plants 18-24 days with no nutes, just plain PH'd water.

Just two stacked 18 gal rubber maids gives you enough for probably 4 1GAL grow bags, BUT your lighting doesn't power 4 plants.. I'd say two plants at the most. I'd go with bags over buckets or pails or head to the dollar store and find a rectangle shaped bathroom trash can. You can fit two 2GAL grow bags in that space with enough room for some branching. That's probably your best bet if you don't go with the trash cans.

CFL lighting doesn't put off too much heat although it puts off some. Also if you haven't purchased the PC fans yet, just get a 4" Holesaw bit for a drill and use this guy -
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...-+Home+Automation-_-Suncourt-_-9SIA05W0194941 I used a 6" version 125CFM for my CFL cab that was about twice the size and it was adequate exhaust with almost 250W of CFL lighting.

Is smell a concern for you at all? With two small plants you can probably get away rigging up an ONA diffuser or something of the sort.

EDIT:

After looking up the 18 gallon dimensions;

Measures 24" x 16" x 16.5" inches

You may want to opt for smaller pots just to limit the size of the plants - I say this because 37" of vertical space isn't that much. Especially after you add in lighting and the height of the pots. Maybe use 2 gallon grow bags and fill them up 75% of the way and roll the remainder of the bag down or cut it off. Although 10" (standard 2 gal bag) with 18-24" plants would still leave you enough room for the lights depending on the size of the fixture.. hard to say on that one with all things considered, just throwing this opinion out there.
