I wanted to share this as I am having great success using these self watering pots. I started with the 10 inch pots which are about 3 gallons, but have moved up to the 12 inch pots as they are close to 5 gallons. Im using them outdoors and only water every 3 days or so. The plants seem to really like being watered from the bottom up. The price is very reasonable at 12.50 for the advertised 5 gallon version. They make some really big ones if you need more water or more soil. I made several of the DIY 5 gallon pots, but I cant make them any cheaper than these and the ecogrow pots seem to wick way better. Wishing all of you the best with your gardens. :peace:

Additional info. Here is the same company using a different website. I actually purchased my 5 gallon pots here. For some reason the shipping is way less on this website http://420growsystem.com/ than the other one.

I plan on using 5gallon (US) pots for my outdoor grow as im looking for max yields.

Those self-watering plants look pretty cool for the price! Are you using it along with their soil mix?

Pher, Nope I am using a FFOF and compost mix. It is Piggy's soil recipe only I added a bag of compost to mine. Its pretty hot soil so if you consider it, be sure and let it cook. The longer the better. They are great pots for the money. Im sure that alot of people thought that I was peddling these pots, but I was just trying to share a good product with the rest of you. :peace:

Love homemade soil mixes! I plan on using FFOF when i transplant.

NPD, cooking soil for a while does not make it less hot, it just allows the microbes to consume and make available the organic nutes. That mix still has a lot of nutes in it and is too much for autos IMHO. I also am not a fan of self watering containers and have had massive issues with them before with root rot and plant stress.

Piggy, Thanks for the advise, but I am having some success with the pots. Maybe its because I live in such a hot arrid climate. I dont think that you could make anything develope root rot where I am. I can only check things every 3 or 4 days so dont have alot of other options. Thank you again for the advise on the soil. I cant imagine life where I dont learn something everyday. Lord knows that I have sure gone to school on you. I dont know what IMHO means. Dont forget that you are dealing with an old fart here. My generation still has to see it spelled out for the most part. :peace:

Hey man. IMHO means In My Honest Opinion.

That's great you are getting good results with the self watering pots in your area. I would definitely say it's better for outdoor hotter climates, but you never know. I believe Piggy means in 'normal' conditions, that the self watering containers gave him over-watering and root rot troubles, but to each his own. It just wouldn't work well in all applications.

I want to update my experience with the self watering ecopots. I should have listened to Mr. Piggy's statement about having problems with root rot brought on by using self watering pots. I am known to be a little hard headed and not listen to those who have more experience. That is exactly what I did with with Mr. Piggy's offer to share his knowledge about self watering pots. I didnt listen and it cost me pretty much everything that I was growing. Want to guess what the crop killer was? If you said root rot then you would have nailed it. I have learned an important life lesson about listening when a more experienced grower gives you a tip. Listen up because the price that you pay for letting your ego get in the way may be to high. It was in my case. Eco pots and other self watering systems will give you massive issues, RE root rot and plant stress just like the man said it would. :peace:

No worries NPD, it's not like that! I've seen people pull off nice plants in self watering containers, i was just offering my personal experience. I'm not all that experienced of a grower either, I've only been growing a little over three years now. :peace:

There's no progress by sticking to the rules or what "experts" say.
