I'm probably using the same HoneForest TDS/EC meter that many folks are using (Amazon product).

I'm getting numbers like
PPM = 690, EC = 1406
PPM = 454, EC = 965
PPM = 672, EC = 1429

Yet, I find web articles that post
"An indicative EC range for cannabis plants is 0.8-1.3 for seedlings; 0.5-1.3 for clones; 1.3-1.7 under vegetative phase; 1.2-2 during flowering. Different varieties of cannabis might require significantly different values of EC"

So, the target is under 2.0, yet my readings are up around 1000 or even higher. Any thoughts for a novice here?

BTW plants _seem_ to be doing pretty good, and were flushed 3 days ago.

To get your EC value, multiply your PPM by 2 and divide by 1000.

ex.
500ppm = 1.0ec
600ppm = 1.2ec
700ppm =1.4ec

Whew!

Thanks so much - looked around and could not find anything like this! Must be the meter does the calculation but leaves out the decimal point!!!

It's common to list EC in μs/cm rather than ms/cm, which is 1000x. That may be what your meter reads in. 0.8 ms/cm EC = 800 μs/cm EC. Either scale works.

Also, 0.8 - 1.3 (800 - 1300) for seedlings seems really high, and those numbers seem high in general for autos. Growing in coco (and bottom-feeding), I've tended to start around 200-300 for seedlings (not counting my tap water's base EC, which is around 275), ramp up to around 600-800 through veg, and then stay around 800-1100 in flower. I increase gradually and watch how the plants react, if I see deficiencies or issues like tip burn that informs the mix next time. I rarely go over 1100.

Hanna is the most common scale (500) in the USA. The rest of the world uses EC.

Your meter is not displaying the decimal point.

25% (~150 PPM) strength for germination, 50% (350 - 400 PPM) strength week 1 and add 10% per week until a little bit of tip burn then back off 10%. The maximum I use is 800 PPM This deos not include my starting water (80 PPM).
