I wanted to create an ongoing journal of my 5x5 earthbox grows. I haven’t had much extra time and have just been tagging along lately. But this forum is THE BEST forum on the interwebs and I want to stay a part of it. Most of my success as a grower is due to AFN.

I am just finishing up an experimental grow where I used straw to mulch the earthboxes instead of the standard plastic cover. It makes top watering easier but dries out much quicker (I lacked with the top watering, the struggles were my own fault). The feeder roots didn’t come to the surface like they do with the plastic cover. Because of this, the plants are struggling more at the end this time. I also overcompensated by giving them too much buildabloom feed over the last few weeks. Probably did more harm than good. But I should still get a decent harvest. For my style of growing (lazy/time limited) using the plastic covers makes more sense. I think there is a place to use a straw mulch if you like to add a lot of extras in earthboxes. But keeping the top few inches moist is a must. It was a fun experiment but I’ll go back to the plastic covers next grow.

Tent day 71. Plant in the front is Northern Blue Lights from @Sawney_bean. Been yellowing for the last month. Gonna grow this one again soon, give a her a better go. Thanks again for the beans Sawney. Gonna have to give lecter a go again soon. Been my favorite bud to vape at night :smokeit:

Purple Star CBD by Atlas seeds. Healthiest plant in the tent. Smells like straight skittles. This is primarily for my older pitbull and his bad hips. But I may have to take a joint or two of this one.

Sawneys SOS, stayed on the smaller side. I thought she was pretty close to harvest, but when I checked the trichomes I saw very little amber. I’ll give her another week. She has some nice fall colors going on now 😁

Last but not least is S.O.D.K. from Mephisto. Grew this one in a one gallon pot a couple years ago and really liked it. The one I grew back then didn’t grow very well so I wanted to give her another try. This one is stacking, the upper cola’s are almost as wide as a coke cola can. I think this one or the Northern Blue Lights will yield the most.

Thanks Sawney. I actually have some of the lecter gen2 beans already. What’s the difference between the gen 1 and gen2?

Day 74, did some more leaf trimming. The purple star CBD sure looks much smaller after the trim  But most of the leaves that I trimmed off the CBD were caked in frost, so I saved and froze them. I'll infuse them with the rest of the plant later for my pup. Northern Blue Lights is pretty damn yellow, but the buds are tightening up and getting frostier everyday. The back of the NBL leaves are really pretty, I am assuming from the blueberry genetics?

Partially harvested the SODK last night. Will finish the rest today hopefully. Smells of sweet orangie fuel. I was hoping it would have a bit more diesel in the profile, but this pheno is on the sweeter side. Very sticky and has some density. Had to clean the scissors often. Mephisto never disappoints.

The S.O.D.K. is drying right now. The other three plants are at Day 81 now. Not doing much of anything other than watering when needed.

Day 81

Purple Star CBD, I will be trimming this down when I get a chance. My whole family has been sick including me, so I havent had a chance yet. It is definitely ready. Very purple and solid now. Still smells like skittles with some fuel on the backend now. Im definitely keeping some of this for a few J's. The rest will goto my older pitty for his hips.

Sawneys SOS. I could cut this down at any point now but I really want it to knock me out, so I am going to let it go for another week I think. Very solid, frosty and sticky. It has fox-tailed quite a bit. She has been really green the whole time, maybe too much N.

Northern Blue Lights, biggest plant of the bunch. Been the opposite of the SOS, much more pale in color. Almost like a yellow green. But the colas are fattening up and are very solid now. Frosty and very sticky too. Has a nice sweet essence on the front with that Northern Lights earthy funk to it. I am excited.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to everyone. Thanks for stopping by.

Finally got to harvest the CBD plant. Man this one is so purple and pretty. Atlas seeds hasn’t let me down yet. Solid genetics. I’m wondering how it’ll look when it dries. Smells like skittles mixed with diesel. There is definitely more than anticipated, it’s dense.
