Hey all. I recently germinated a gorilla glue seed and then immediately killed it. Trying to figure out where I went wrong, may be a couple of things.
I germinated with a paper towel in a ziplock. I put it in my gas oven that stays warm due to a pilot light. I checked it next morning, and it was just starting to show a taproot. I left it for the day and when I got home the root was super long, at least an inch. I put it in soil that night. I start my seeds in jiffy pellets, set in fox farm ocean forest (with added perlite and lime). This time, when I soaked the jiffy pellet, I used water mixed with house and garden root excelurator (0.2, 0, 0.1). I thought that this might be a good idea?

So I gently put it in the pellet soil, slightly covered it, and left it under the light. A few days later, nothing happening. I gently brush some of the covering off down to the seed and let it sit another day. Still nothing. I touch the seed and the shell half comes off, but the inner growth is dead whitish/tan colored. It looks like it tried? Idk, it's still in there, hanging on to a faint hope that it may make a miraculous turn around but I'm not holding my breath.

Any ideas where I messed up? Did I let it germinate too long? Should I not soak the jiffy with the roots excelurator? Just bad luck? The only difference between what I did this time and the last (my first successful grow) is the length of germination time and using the roots excelurator in the starting medium. I'm getting ready to pop another, just don't want to mess this one up too. Thanks.

Root accelerator is definitely not needed, the seed has everything it need to sprout properly and grow the first inch but the oven might also have been slightly to warm and ruined the germination even though it did sprout in there

Germing a seed is much easier and lazier than you've made it. I get 100% germ by just planting a bean in moistened soil at the right temp then Go smoke a doob or two. 3-4 days, they're up.

My seeds are almost always out of the soil in 3 days. I soak in tap water until the seed sinks...Usually 12 to 24 hours. Then directly to soil that has been preheated by the lights. You are over thinking bud!

Here's what I do. Fill pot with soil (I've used 5 gallon and 10 gallon pots) and water good. Wait till next day and put shallow hole in soil. Put seed in hole and lightly cover with soil. Use spray bottle to moisten soil where seed is. Continue to moisten soil with spray bottle twice or so a day. 3 to 7 days later it breaks surface. It has worked Everytime for last 15ish seeds.

ETA: I don't presoak seeds, I don't heat soil, heck I don't even put something over area to keep in humidity.

Thanks everyone. Seems like I probably germinated too long and at a too warm temp, and I'm sure the root excelurator was a bad idea. I'll scoop out that jiffy pellet and try again with no excelurator and forgo germinating before planting. Bummed I ruined my gorilla glue seed. I'll try my luck with hindu kush next.

The pellets do not work great, they have both coco and peat pellets neither are great they stay to wet, easy to rot seed. After you take out of paper towel put right in the soil 1/8 below the surface, very little water, and cover it with clear plastic cup for humidity.

I just plant in the soil also. No water soaking seeds here before planting. I poke a hole in the middle if the pot in the soil up to my first knuckle. Drop the seed in the hole and lightly cover with soil then water it and they are born when they pop there heads up above ground in a few days usually.
