...or do you let everything run 24\7 ?
After 12 months of grow,i'm losing an oscillating fan and one exaust is getting noisy.Couls easily put them on the same timer as the lights.
mines on 24/7 the humidity rises when the lights are off so cant get away with anything less your best option is the invest in good quality fans the oscillating ones die thats just how it is i go through 1 a year for the extraction maybe try a brush less motor type like the ac infinity the cheaper ones bearings will wear out in no time

i leave my extraction fan and filter on 24/7 and out of my 3 oscillating i level just one on at lights out to just keep a breeze also you need you fan and filter going to stop the smell

Extraction fan (AC Infinity S6) and lights (2x Mars Hydro TS1000) are on 24/7, I'm growing Autos and decided on 24/7 instead of 20/4 or 18/6 for my first grow.
The other fans I can adjust a bit for noise at night time when needed, but I wouldn't switch them off, airflow is quite important, especially once your plants starts to fill up the tent.

Extraction runs when tent is out of parameters. Doesn't matter if lights on or off. The clip fans inside run 24/7. Things we don't think about when growing weed is.... regular maintenance of components of the grow. Fans I clean and lubricate between runs, so every 3 months. If it moves, it gets greased or oiled.

Edit: have had the same cheapo clip fan for 4 yrs, has probably ran 3 yrs of that given breaks and vacations.

The oscillating fan pick up quite some RPMs when i stop the left to right movement leading me to think that the internal plastic gears are worn.
I'm just gonna get another one but was curious what others are doing.
Both extraction and oscillating have been on for 12 months out of the last 13.
Expecting a year of service out of those cheap Amazon fans is expected i guess...
Will order a new one...to go with my new 4x8 coming this week! :d5: :woohoo::cheers:
Also ordered Samsung strips and a Meanwell driver to do a built!

No, I do not turn off the fan when lights are off. Everything other than the lights stay the same, including the thermostatically controlled heater. I want the temp, RH, and air supply to stay in bounds overnight.

5+ years on a Hydrofarm inline, started fluctuating rpm a few weeks back. Settled on an AC Infinity T6 after reading feedback on it.. love it so far.

I never had luck with clip-on's.. 6 months tops. I then started buying 9" fans and they would last about a year. Last season i jumped up to Hurricane 12" oscillating fans at top of a 3x3 and 4x4.. always run on low. I expect these to last awhile.

I'm the type who cant tolerate constant replacement using the same product.. i tend to shop around looking to upgrade even if it costs me a bit more.
