Do Autos Need Consistent Light Schedule?

Can’t really find anything online. I know there’s several different cycles you can choose from, but do you need to be consistent? Is there any science to back it up?
Appreciate it!

Can we ask what the reason for the inconsistency would be?

My power went out for a few hours last night. I’m at day 50. Was wondering if it will have any negative consequences to my plants. Also was just generally curious. Can do several different cycles within the same grow without negatively impacting the plants?

look afer DLI...i move them in(to the tent) and out( to the sun) in the summer and they get different times of light due to that. They just have a "timer", and whatever they get of a DLI they grow and bud.
The different light schedules are well tested (see forums for links to light experts etc and testgrows), and everything above 16h will give decent results.
Most common would be a 18/6 schedule which brings best in cost/yield balance (usual disclaimers imo). Do they react in bloom when you switch light on (longer or in "dark period")..no. Do they "need" a dark period..no.
just grow them ...it's weed!

I would think you'd be fine if you had a short power outage. As far as changing schedules, I have lowered the schedule from 20/4 to 18/6 in the past because I see no difference in the growth personally, so figure 20 (for me) was a waste. But I would not go to longer schedule after I went to a shorter one personally.

Interesting note - when we had to move out of the blue recently. I had a small few plants that I couldn't take with me that I had to cull. I turned everything in the tent off, and didn't get around to the plants for a week or so. So they sat in the darkness with no food for a week - poor things. When I got around to yanking them, I was surprised to see that 3 of the 4 plants went into flower mode even though they shouldn't/wouldn't have in a normal situation. Guess they went into survival mode?

So I'm typically a photoperiod grower , just got onto my first auto run . Because I'm seeing such different pheno expression I'm actually almost light depthing my grow tent with a cmh. I have the stretchy plants on one half and the shorter /mutant on left . I feel most of these want 15+ hours (flowering ) . Idk about the whole 20 hours on for FLOWERING. During pre flower yes 18/6- 24 .... But spectrum is what I'm finding is the answer not so much time . Under T5s they definitely preflowered quicker. Under the cmh @ 450ppfd they stayed short from blue spectrum . When I cranked the cmh to full power and was getting about 550ppfd they started to flower as if they were outside in summer time . I was riding very high vpd also from day 1 to once I seen the bud sites start to develop . I really think it's strain dependent and that's why everyone has a few different phenotypes growing autos in every pack . Autos are just not worth the yield at 20+ hrs for a electric bill in 2022.

Sorry to hear about the power outage - we're headed into blackout season here in Southern California so I'm glad my grow is almost done.

I'm growing 2 Gorilla Glue autos and, over the course of the grow, have varied the lights on period from 17.5 to 21 hours but have mostly done 18/6. I varied the light schedule to hit a certain DLI but, when I stopped doing DLI, it's been 18/6. The change there was that I switched to going purely by PPFD for the last month or so.

I have been running 18/6 because I figure that everything needs a rest. In the end, are we really going to notice what difference 1 or 2 hours is going to really make. It's going to be phenomenal and you will never notice a 0.2% difference in potency but you will see an extra 10-20 bucks on your electric bill. I've seen a few threads with growers having photos and autos in the same tent and having to switch to 12/12. I felt the yield was decent but I think there was a diminishing effect as compared to pushing the amount of light harder. In the end it comes down to DLI as a guide and reading you plants.

Getting into thunderstorm season here and the power goes out frequently. Amazingly I'm always the 1st house on the street to have a generator running :crying:
