Good community here guys, nice one. As per title - wondering if a photo and an auto grown from seed under the same light conditions would see a difference in growth speed during just the veg stage. I'm imagining that autos gain most of the speed advantage vs photos in flowering as they have more light.

thanks

Autos don't really have a "veg" state.. So in that sense they are much faster in veg than a photo.. Butvspeed does not equal growth.. Day 30 of a photo period and it's just getting started, it hasn't hit a growth spurt of any kind.. Day 30 of an auto and it has shown sex and might be done stretching and in preflower.. Autos don't really veg so there's no true way to compare the two...

Only growing for meds and healthy plants, I grow autos and photos together, under the same light 24/0 , same medium, same everything....only di water for 3 weeks....I've not noticed much, if any, difference. The question is about oranges and apples.

thanks for info. So I know this is impossible to time, but if you hypothetically planted outdoors both a photoperiod and an auto seed on the same date late in the season, with the intent on harvesting 100 days later in the autumn, would the two plants be much difference in size?

Yes.. I huge difference. An auto would be harvested well before 100 days.. The photo period would veg until the daylight hours change.. So probably veg for 40 days and flower for 60.. What is the question you are truly wanting the answer to?

Well some autos can take 100 days outdoors. So let's say we know the autoflower does take exactly 100 days and we know the photoperiod harvests on 1st October (again, hypothetical), so we plant both 100 days before 1st October (on 23 June). Which will produce more bud?

Broo.. What autos run 100 days , indoors or outdoors?? If you name some, those aren't full autos, lol.. 100 days to grow an auto defeats the entire purpose of an auto.. Most photo period grows don't even take 100 days. You can grow a huge photo period plant outdoors with 6weeks of veg (42 days) and 8 weeks of flower (56 days), 98 days total.. I have yet to see or hear about an auto out yielding or out growing a photo period in any situation..

Starting an auto that will finish outside on October 1st is a waste of time in many climates. That was my experience last year. I'm north of the 49th parallel so your daylight and temperatures could be much more suited. I also grew a couple of fast photo green poison that vegged outdoors for 7 weeks and chopped 7 weeks later. I lost 4 oz or so due to bud rot and still ended up with 11 or 12 oz from the two. I grew two Critical +2.0 autos outdoors during prime growing, June through August and they produced 7 oz total between them in 74 and 81 days.

Well this one can take 12-14 weeks and apparently outdoor can take 1-2 weeks longer, so seems possible

yeah, I'm Mediterranean so probably better, but still not ideal. Just trying to figure out if you had to plant this late whether would be better off with autos or photos.
