Hybrid Hydro's RDWC System!!

Ok so I have always want to build a hydroponic system that would be a beast, I looked around the internet for 2-3 months before I decided on the style of system that I would like to "DIY" and invest my money and time into. After alot of reading and research I finally found the "Current Culture RDWC System", but I did not like the price....$1,200.00 to $2,800.00!!!

No way could I even begin to justify spending that amount of cash on this........Fu*&k it, let's build it!

9 5gal buckets w/ lids,
18 3" Uniseals or 18 3" Spin-tight Bulkheads,
150' of 1/4 black air line,
2 8 port EcoAir pumps(380gph-1440l/h)
1 Danner PondMaster Mag-Drive model5 500gph pump,
18 Med Airstones (4"),
1 1/2" Rainbird sediment inline filter,
1 1/2" ball valve,
10.5' 3" PVC Pipe cut into length of your choice,
4 3" PVC slip elbows,
1 3" PVC T,
1 3" PVC reducer to 1/2",
PVC Primer,
PVC Cement,
Plumbers tape,
8 5" netpots.

1. I started by looking at the ez-stor bucket's.......but at $10.95 each then the lid at $4.54 came to $15.49 each X 8 would have set me back at $123.92 just for the buckets. ~S/H not included in this price.~

I thought about for a minute........I will get my buckets for free from my local DQ Fast Food Restaurant. So I walked in told the manager to please save the 5gal buckets for me as wanted them to grow tomatoes this summer in them. She agreed and saved 15 of them for me. BUCKET'S CHECK!!

I went to my local Hardware store and purchased most of the parts I needed to get started. The rest I ordered from e-Bay and Amazon. and after getting all parts collected it was time to put this monster together!

Now as you can see in this pic I tried some 4" round air stone but found the out put to be lacking for what I wanted

Ok so at is point I wanted to see if my boat would Float...lol...if the system would hold up to 32gal's of water. Upon filling up the system I found that in putting the 3" PVC pipe into the 3" Uniseal's I cracked the bottoms of some of the buckets!!! Now I can tell you this...those Uniseals are a bitc$ to get to work with the 3" PVC pipe. I took two people, tons of Anal-Ease, and a crap ton of sweat to get the pipe's into the Uniseal's. Later I found out why!!! you need to cut the ends of the pipoe's at a 90 degree angle! Too Late....

I moved on from Uniseal's and so did Current Culture!

But before I did I tried Round Buckets but Cracked those too.....

Time to install the bulkheads now! Boom they worked great with a lil aquarium silicone no leaks at all!

Now at this point I spry painted the system flat black!

I know Im forgetting stuff but if you have any ?'s please ask!

Now that's a project!!
Very well done, can't wait to see it action.

Im am starting a thread to show off this Monster RDWC System in action. Will be pushing Photo Blue Dream to the brink!

~9 4Gal Bucket RDWC = 27Gal total
~Botanicare Pure Blend Pro + Roots Organic + Compost Tea
~2 X 600w HPS Lights
~8' X 4' Tent
~1/10HP Active Aqua Chiller

I see you are using a inline filter and is that a danner mag pump? I use submersible pumps to run drip rings and air stones. You mentioned you don't use the round air stones so what do you use?

the round 4" flat disk air stone's is what I was going to use.....

I now use the Medium round air stone:

I use 2 of above per bucket.

"Do it right the first time or don't do it at all." That's how I see it any way. I don't want to use junk when dealing with amount of water and plants.
