Disappointed. Need some good unbiased advice

What % of intensity and heights are you using for various stages of development? I’m sure the product will have (hopefully) have some detailed info.on this…

See if the Photone app works on your phone - it's an app that measures PPFD levels, and it's reasonably accurate according to MIGRO.

From what I've found, decent PPFD ranges are ~150-300 for seedlings, and ~500-1000 for veg and flower.

After much debate, I went with (2) Viparspectra XS2000s. They should be here ina few days. I know they are from China, not too crazy about that. But they seem to be reputable. The size, output, and price seem to be right where I need to be right now. Any feedback on how they are performing? What % of intensity and heights are you using for various stages of development? On another note..my experience with KindLED was nothing short of horrendous. While there seemed to be some decent people. I got the run around for 3 weeks, and finally after a month, they received my lamp. Still haven’t received a refund.

Hope to be planting in the next couple weeks.
Glad to see that things are shaping up even though there's the issue of getting the money back from Kind. Call your credit card company and have them stomp on Kind. Dunno how much experience you have with banks or how much clout you have your credit card issuer with but they will usually side with the customer (the card holder).

If you live in the PRC ("PRC" being the "People's Republic of California"), let your fingers do the walking and get in touch with a government agency or two. Now that I think about it, the real PRC is more friendly to businesses than CA is so, unleash the hounds on their ass and see what happens.

Yup, Shane got consistent readings when compared to his Apogee sensor using his setup. At issue is that there are a significant number of differences between what Shane was doing vs how Photone might be used in the wild. There's huge variance in what paper is used for the mask, how the phone is held, and how different phones function.

I spent a few hours doing systematic testing of Corona on an iPhone XS Max. I forwarded my results to the programmer and we discussed, over email, the results. When all was said and done, I decided to go with a PAR meter. The one I bought was a big gulp in terms of price but that was at the beginning of this year. In just a few months, the market has changed.

Shane at MIGRO just put out a video that he's selling a moderately priced PAR meter and it's accurate to 5±% vs the Apogee. In addition, there are PAR meters on Amazon that are worth a look.

No question, a PAR meter is more spendy than Photone but Photone is, inherently, susceptible to more and greater inaccuracies than even an inexpensive PAR meter. What threw me with Photone was that I got very different readings using 20# paper vs 22# paper vs 24# paper. The only way I was able to get close to accurate was using a cut off from an envelope. And the reading fluctuated significantly even with the phone was sitting on the top my my res. The big issue for me is that a PAR meter won't be way wrong if I don't do things just right.

Just my tuppence.

To be fair, I haven’t given them much time to refund, so I will be patient for just a little bit longer. They seem like decent people, just very very unorganized, and VERY slow to respond.

The only exception was a sales manager who was affiliated with their sister company Supercloset. He was absolutely fantastic, and was the one that stayed on their ass about getting this done. In a dept. that he isn’t a part of. Honestly, if I ever go with a tent, I will deal with him directly he was so good.

Funny you mention that SuperCloset is a "sister" company. I've picked up on that but never dug into it, What is the relationship between Kind, SuperCloset, and Gorilla Tents?

I know for 100% certain Super Closet/Kind are the same company, not sure if Gorilla is included into that.

Do tell!

I bought a setup from SuperCloset back in 2017 and, while it was more expensive than buying the items on the open market, part of the price that I paid was that I got a working system on a palette. It really was "just add water", pardon the pun, and, as a consultant, I understand that the value of knowledge is a function of price.

What shocked me was the Kind.

I archived my grow in late 2017 and unarchived it early this year. When I was testing Korona, now Photone, I contacted Kind and they sent me a PPFD map of my light (the XL 600 series 1) and also their series 2 version. After looking at the PPFD map, I felt…it's hard to find the right word for it, "unclean" perhaps. Even though I was very early in my pursuit of understanding LED for cannabis, the only appropriate course of action was obvious. The Kind went back in its box and its box went in the trash. Yes, it was a design from 2016 but plugging it into a wall socket would have been a violation of some law or regulation, karmic or otherwise.

I ended up with a Mars SP 3000 and the difference between the two products, the Kind being double the price of the Mars, is stunning. By way of analogy, they're the Bose of the LED market and the embodiment of "You can put lipstick on a pig but it's still a pig."
