Just as the thread title suggests.. Have seen these 60w tube heaters advertised on ebay just wondering if we have any users here. Seems ideal to chuck in the bottom of a tent.

If so what size area are you heating?

Is it any good, reviews on amazon seem to show its fairly poor with people saying it hardly radiates heat even though it is warm to the touch.

Iv seen similar tube heaters in my local hydro shop,I talked to the owner and he said they do work well but because they don't have a thermostat you need to run them on a segmental timer as they warmed up the tent to much ( my tent is 2x2x5 ft and I was discussing to smallest tube heater ) he suggested doing a dry run of say half hour on half hour off and seeing how the temps held out and adjusting as needed..iv not bothered getting one thou as I think unless your temps really plumit you could still grow autos, especially JEMs or dragons as there outdoor bred and can take cooler temps,my duurty dragons finished on temps in the mid 50s

Friend of mine has a rather small tent on the go and I know that over winter ambient temps are going to be around 2*C in the same room as the tent so thought a heater might make a nice prezzie, just stuck for ideas really :) Im sure his lights must make the tent warmer than the room air but due to constant extraction I thought a heater might be nifty. Perhaps I should get him a few sheets of cellotex insulation instead !

Thanks for the reply coop.

A heater would work mate, and if it's just to keep temps up during lights out it will work fine, maybe get a timer too if it makes the temp to high, there really cheap..also check if the ones on eBay/amazon are splash proof, the ones at my hydro were and auto cut off too, nice to have a little safety where water and electric are in close contact

Aha Snooch!! a user!! So the heater you have pointed out is 80w, 20w more powerful than the one I was looking at but otherwise identical from the looks of things. Can I ask how you run it.. timer vs thermostat.. and what temperature air are you trying to heat?

My friends tent measures a little smaller than yours so unless the heater can be stood vertically it would have to go diagonally across the middle of the tent.

perhaps a slightly smaller one would be better. diagonal might cause him some problems.

In the daytime with the heater on i get 24-25oC at 60%rh at night i'm around 13-14oC at the moment. not ideal but it is keeping the pots warm so i'm happy it. Not sure how cold it is outside the tent at night. i can check for you later if you want
here is a photo showing the heater next to my pots

hey haze, i am in northern maine, heat with wood, my tent is two rooms away nighttime temps go down to 50*deg. f. they are thriving no problem!

No need to check temps later snooch, you have allready provided enough info, many thanks! More rep your way :)

astronomy, I think maybe I am being over zealous here, if your.. and others plants are thriving as low as 10c im fairly sure we can get my mates temps up to at least that :) ty

cheers man. fully unworthy of the rep but if you need any more pics or info feel free to drop me a message.
