Cutting Bud Leaving Bud...

When you "examine" a bud you should get rid of it by smoking it. Or putting it in a the lowest temp your oven can go until it dries and see how it does in a vaporizer.
I did. :smoking: And am quite pleased. I got a solid cerebral with physical sensations around my head, kind of tingly. Felt really well overall. It lasted through the movie No Remorse. ROFL. I smoked it in a pipe. It also seems to be heading for a very calm kind of lock. So best of both. I will be amazed if this ripens and improves this week. First Grow=Wow! Pretty decent.

I used to do that with big plants all the time, they ripen in a wave traveling down the plant. When you plug something off for testing don't put it in the oven, that's too fast and changes the effect you'll get. I found putting it on the heater, packed in some paper so it takes a good 2 days to be smokably dry to give a reliable enough result of the final cured smoke.

Even for the largest (indoor) plants I never did more than 2 stages.

I've read to do it to increas light to improve yield in smaller buds. Today I tied the largest colas down to hang outside of the pot area. The center is wide open to the light. See pic. Light is 100% on the TS 1000. I am finding lots of sticky playing around. And I do have a question about the bud bulbs (i made that up) or sacs. My concern is "are they preseed hermi pods." Or are they new buds? I took pics but they were blurry. They are occurring at the nodes I guess but it is a single pollip with 2 short pistils

Size comparison Gorilla Glue on the left at 11 weeks and Tangerine Dream on the right at 7-8 weeks. I like the way the TD is growing except the stems or branches seem to thin and easy to bend. The girl is full of LST clips. On the right of the TD the colas, branches are taller. I tie them down and they stretch up fast again.

Nono, those little sacks are normal, no hermy-ing there. That's where the flavor hides

I never found it to be increasing my yield but it guaranteed that all my bud was consistent in the effect it had.

There's nothing wrong about vaping/smoking

I presume otherwise -- that whether fresh bud is dried over minutes or a few days, there is not going to be any difference, the THCa and cannabinoids will not degrade/change differently due to changing bud water content or mild heating. [But it is generally preferable to slow dry, such as over a week (or more) and ideally also cure before consumption, if only to get rid of chlorophyll].

To test fresh buds I just put them on top of an AutoCOB heat exchanger/cooling vent (rather warm) for about 20 minutes, which fully dries them.

Time is merely a function f temperature in this case i used time as a variable to make it easier. If you have cbd & thc strains and heat them in an oven at 80-100c there is gonna be a difference, trust me on that

Thanks! This group is awesome. I am learning a bunch of the little things I'd never know how to ask about or it would take time. All this AFN can fill a grower's day. I have been building a One Note for all of these 'tips' and wisdom.

I took 80 grams wet off today. I decided I would look at the plant closer and learn it's parts. The canopy is wide open now at 100% light, for about a week maybe. I mentioned yesterday it was feeling a little like a sauna inside the buds with dense leaf growth. While I have stash I plan on curing most of it. The last things I am looking for is a slow down of water intake, Trichs and buds firming up. Some are tighter than others.
