Jalapenos come in all kinds of colors, I've got a purple and a black growin now. And I believe (jalapeños are to tame anymore so I don't grow many) that green ones will redden if left on the vine. Cut the tops off, stuff in cream cheese and mushrooms, wrap with bacon and bake.... I'll be over shortly.
I grew out several until they were red a couple years ago. If you let them go until they are good and red, then smoke and dry a batch and grind it up it makes a great spice. They are called chipotle peppers when they get good and ripe and red like that (where the burrito chain got it's name).
East Coast roads, well my area anyway has potholes so big I'm surprised they're not classified mini sinkholes...I wish we had smooth roads..It's like an obstacle course when I'm driving to avoid them..
