as long as u get the B-Version of for example the meanwell drivers you can dimm the COB's down to 10% or whatever u think is barly the max your plants can handle at their state and the distance to the COB. when i dimm my CXB3590's ( 1400mA max curent from driver, constant current b-version ) to the minimum of 10% i could get about 3 to 4 inches distance without burning any plant at all.



you got it, the lower u drive them the closer you can go.

That sounds great for the tops, but doesn't it effect penetration?

yeah thats why i mentioned to dimm the COB's to the maximum the plants can handle at certian distance. also the example with 3 to 4 inches is just to show what i mean, irl nobody would go that close haha. i said that cause @Greengenes thought there is a minimum distance u need when u use COB's
