I hear ya but I kinda feel like people in general suck... Sad to say. Like how you mean, embarassed to know them. That's how I feel about my fellow New Englanders, at least around here. Reserved, judgmental just kinda permanent strangers. Afraid of their neighbors but angry at them at the same timr. Yet overly polite (fake polite) in a few ways at the grocery store then cursing them and rude in every respect behind the wheel, leaving the parking lot of the same store.

I grew up in North Shore Boston area. I had no idea we were such A- holes, until I moved to southern AZ. Strangers said hello to me on the streets...I would glare at them. Someone started talking to me at the urinal, in a bar. I was like, wtf dude. I'm pissin. Kick rocks homo!
When I came back home, I realized I was a changed man. I look back at that angry kid and can't believe it was me.
