A little late but:
You would have liked it better years ago. When you were very likely to walk into Sloppy Joes or the Hogs Breath and find Jimmy Buffet jamming, or gone into Capt. Tonys and listen to Mel Fisher play a potential investor like a fish on a hook. You would have looked forward to the Full Moon Fever beach parties that ended in the late 80's when a serial killer started luring girls from them and leaving their bodies to be found. He was caught, But the Full Moon spirit had died with the victims. Now, some of the clubs and bars advertise pay to attend parties billed Full Moon Fever but they are nothing like the open beach parties of old. Now, if you aren't rich you can't live well there .The easiest way to make a small fortune down there now is to move there with a big one. If you go, plan it towards the end of October for Fantasy Fest. It goes on for a week with events going on daily in the bars and restaurants where candidates raise money for charity as they earn votes for king and queen. It ends with a big parade on the last night.
One caveat, everyone thinks its wide open . That folks can do the Duval Crawl and anything goes but the favorite saying is "Arrive on vacation, leave on probation."
