As long as it's 150 proof or higher, you're golden. The more water you have in there with the ethanol, the less soluble the goodies become.

If you can get a hold of everclear, use that. If you want to add flavors to it later, there are tons of food grade flavorings you can use - but I don't see the point. This stuff isn't going to be winning any taste tests no matter how you make it.
