ok the weed has been dried and is ready to go into the jars (we think). so we put the buds into a glass jar with an RH meter.

1) So after 12 hours I get a reading of 70-75%. This is too high so open the jar for 5-20 minutes. Then reseal it. Rinse and repeat till RH is stable 60-65%. is this correct way to do it or maybe my buds were bit too wet to start with?

2) if i put some freshly dried buds in a glass jar and after long time sealed it shows 55-57% RH then i likely have just slightly over dried these buds? Sound correct?

3) So basically when i put freshly dried buds into a glass jar and 12 hours later RH meter shows 67-72%. This is normal and the ideal burping range for the jars or am i mistaken? Then after it several burps it slowly lowers to 60-65% in the jar and then i dont need burp the jars anymore?

IMPO 67%-72% is too high, 59% - 65% just right for the cure which is only partly related to the moisture content of the cannabis. The main reason to "Burp" the jars is to replace the oxygen that is used by the process of curing. An optimal environment for enzymes and aerobic bacteria to break down leftover minerals and the undesirable sugars produced by the decomposition of chlorophyll during the drying process. The presence of these sugars and leftover minerals is what causes the harsh, throat-burning sensation you get from smoking improperly cured cannabis.

I may take two or three weeks of daily burping for this process to reach the point where burping is only needed once a month. Like making wine this part is a bit of art. I use my nose to tell me when the process has slowed.

:goodluck:

Thank you. I think i need to knock 5% off everything I am doing in the jars. Prob a touch more drying initially as well.

Temperature is important also because if you go below ~64°F @ 70% RH you can get molds. I have only lost one jar out of more than 100 when in the range has been kept from 59% to 65% RH in the jars and 68°F to 74°F . You can actually start loosing some terps as low as 70°F but I would rather flirt with a few lost terps than mold.

I use @RotBlock and this covers me for some time throughout the drying and curing process as well. Very good stuff Id say.

The temp in my jars varies between 22-25c in current setup. Its warm and tropical here so 22-25c is quite good really and i sleep in same room so in evenings there is aricon too. I dont mind paying for aircon to dry, but not to cure hehe. All good so far anyway but ofc trying to optimize the process. Def is a cure happening, tastes and smells improving etc but will aim for lower humidity. Thanks for your help.

P.S. funny as i had one jar dry all the way down to 54% and it wouldnt go higher so thought i over-dried it...now couple days later of not being opened its back to 58%. maybe this is the way..

if your bud reaches 75% quickly when jarred, throw it in closed paper bags at 50% for another 24 hrs..its too wet still.. re jar, burp at anything over 65 till it stays at 60.. throw in 62 boveda and monitor.. after few weeks drop down to 58 to store and switch to 58 boveda.. fresh bud for over a year easy.

I have used 62% Bovedas for years. I stick one in each jar from the start, and burp as needed until the RH is constant 62%. I use the RH meter in each jar to make sure the RH is in the 50's when burping. I leave the 62% Bovedas in the jar until the jar is empty. I don't jar em until I get a bit of a snap when bending an average sized stem. Curing and proper storage make a huge difference. The smoke is tastier and smoother is my experience a couple months down the road.

@Kyote To be honest i am now following your exact method, except I use Integra Boost 62% and havent been adding them to jars yet really. but now that i have a better feel for it naturally i will start adding the humidipaks to jars immediately once jarred next time. By burping to 50%, do you mean you leave the jars open till RH meter inside says 50% then you re-seal the jars? Rinse and repeat...

Few slight issues with working out exactly the bud was dry, but now i understand how long this roughly take in my environment (1 week in brown bags).

I know the ideal curing temperature in 21c (same as drying) but am i really going to suffer at 24-26c region? I dry at 21c but that involves an additional aircon, which i prefer to use temporarily.

So will 24-26c be ok to cure? Ive stored purchased already cured etc buds like that vac sealed for months at 25-30c and never seen any issues whatsoever but obviously strive for the best now that i am learning and growing.
