I had another grower say they been having trouble for 6 years on and off with this issue. I have had the same problem for 3 years on and off. My thoughts I told him were either...

1.Wet trimming, wet trimming seems to me at least to bring on the fresh cut grass or hay smell. When you cut your lawn it stinks like fresh cut lawn right? I feel this could be a big culprit.

2. Jarring too early with too much miisture in the buds I feel can also cause the hay/fress grass smell.

3. Drying too fast so loses terps or dried too much so it skips the cure.

Anyone agree or disagree? Any other culprits behind hay weed? I dont wanna give a growmie wrong advice so I am reaching out to others to make sure im giving the right advice. Thanks :)

Maybe the plant isnt finished either? I feel also if you cut a plant before its trichomes are ripe and cloudy with or without some amber it may be too early to harvest? Could this maybe cause it also? Just a thought that popped in my head

Not drying long enough and length of cure are the only two things I ever noticed, that give the hay smell. But we're all different, you could just be more sensitive to any hay scent, then most people.

I would not know I have never had any....... So harvest a whole or part of a plant hang upside down in a cool dark place with gentle air movement 68°F 55% - 60% RH. in 4 or 5 days. When the sugar leaf points feel sharp in a gentle squeeze, remove all stemmed leaves, break down the big branches to fit in a brown paper sack, close with a second sack over the top. Rotate when you think about it. "Sweat" the buds for a day or two until your moisture meter reads 11% - 12% or a few test buds in closed in a jar read 62% RH. Pack into Grove Bags with a hygrometer when you are confident they are 58% to 62% RH take the hygrometer out and heat seal the bag. I don't usually open them for more than a month or two. Wait at least 2 weeks.

When i over dry I dont notice it i guess. I just lose terps and dont taste as good cus the cure is gone so it is what it is. It seemed to me from too much moisture in buds. Sweating buds also is impprtant i learned. I cracked a jar open and broke a bud open and nothing but mold inside. That as last year and I had to throw the whole jar away cus i didnt sweat the moisture from the inside outwards and they molded. Harvesting has always been tricky for me and I feel the wood moisture meter upped my game and gave me the tool to succeed. Lots of trial and error and lots of research and investing in the grow

So too much moisture... That was one of my biggest thoughts. Without a moisture meter its a pain. Glad i picked one up so i dont under dry or over dry anymore.
I just got a moisture meter for this last harvest. I had a knack for over drying in previous grows. I will say I cant wait to try these new buds, they smell way sweeter and fresh, compared to my other grows with no meter.

wise 20 to 30 dollar investment. Best investment yet. Easy to do it right.

One thing about the moisture meter: do you simply poke the buds with it? How would you use it in small branches that can’t even fit the space between the meters?
